Rear motor mount replacement

MS3
Hello folks,

I have an 07 MS3 with the stock MM. After reading the last few messages here, I am gravely concerned about not having an aftermarket MM.

So what is a recommended aftermarket MM to buy and how do I go about installing it? I can search the forum for this.

I'd like to hear what other 'absolutely needed fixes should I do on my MS3?

Thanks

I like the CPE rear mount, as it probably is the most livable (less vibration), and is more than sturdy enough. The polyurethane mounts are a bit harsh for my tastes, and PU doesn't have as favorable a "wear profile" as rubber.

Are you talking about the bushing material specifically, or the hard part?

The CPE mount is all one piece of machined aluminum, whereas the SU mount is two pieces attached to one another...

As far as the bushing material goes, I find the CPE mount to be perfectly adequate as far as "robustness" goes, but with an AP and an intake I'm not exactly pushing crazy power...

There of course is debate about whether or not polurethane is any more durable than 60 durometer rubber (of course it is stiffer, but that doesn't equate to being more durable), but regardless, I definitely prefer the added benefit of the rubber's NVH profile.

are dealers likely to b**** about motor mounts if you bring in the car for checkup/warranty work? i'm only at 8.000 miles right now and i am thinking about replacing them in the spring.

My dealer never saw or mentioned anything. Proly because all the other mods distracted them. But youre not going to see a rear motor mount change unless your looking for it.

If you are worried about the dealer, get the black Cork Sport inserts. They are almost invisible, work pretty well and they're much cheaper than a complete mount.

Nliitend1, is your CP-E mount the one with the blue bushing in it? I thought CP-E replaced that blue bushing with the black one that's 75a durometer? I believe the blue bushing feels like you just have the CS inserts in.

Mine is grey, but is supposedly 60 durometer.

I had the CS inserts before, and it's definitely more stout/stiffer than that setup. Not a ton, but it's definitely noticeable. I'm really happy with mine. Any stiffer and it would be too much for a daily driver/road car, IMO. Of course, maybe I'm just getting old... Lol (dunno)

To add to the question above, can someone post their experience with the CP-e mount in hot weather considering that heat has significant effect on rubber?

Thanks

I live in FL.... (lol2)

If you think about it, rubber actually probably has a more favorable "wear profile" than polyurethane...

Good quality, hard rubber will outlast polyurethane any day, as it's more resistant to heat and resists permanent deformation and cracking more readily than polurethane.

I've had PU mounts in some of my earlier cars, but with this one since there seemed to be a great quality hard rubber mount out there (CP-E's) I decided to give it a try. I haven't been disappointed.

I have the TRZ Rear MM and love it!

Easy 5 min install.

TRZ Mount on left, OEM on right

Drive your car on ramps or jack the front end up, loosen the two bolts, remove stock mount, insert new mount. Done.

I do not like any other mount other than TRZ or AWR. I don't like the SU, or CP-E mount at all. Doesn't even remotely look stock at all, and it's just a gigantic metal mount.

...and the TRZ looks stock?? (dunno)

What difference does how "stock" it looks make to anything relevant to its performance?

I have the SU rear MM. Look at the Durometer or Duro rating. The higher the number the stiffer it will be. Keep in mind the stiffer you go the more power you will put down to the ground but it will vibrate the hell out of the interior of the car. Hope that helps! As for other upgrades it depends on what you want to do to the car overall. There are certain things you have to do when upgrading different aspects of the car. Example, TBE you would probably want and OCC to fix the PCV issue or the PT-P pill, bnoon bolt...
