rear deck 6 by 9......

I've removed my sub and amp and been thinking about installing some 6 by 9's
in the exsisting speaker moldings....looking at maybe some infinity kappa's, with good bass. Has any one done this? i know our stock sub's and amps are weak and basically suck. Plus the wiring is already in place for the 6 by 9 speakers. This would give me 8 speakers(4 front, 4 back) hoping to get more sound.... Please give me your feed back on this one...thanks.

I did this with Infinity 6X9 two way speakers and it sounds great. It was easy to install too, because like you said the wiring is already there. I dont think you will be disapointed.

the stock wiring that's there is that hooked up to the headunit already??

If so i might just add some 6X9's that i have lying around.

You can use the stock amp to drive the 6x9's. The RCA's going to the amp are stereo and if you turn off the crossover in the head unit everything will work. Although the stock (non-MSP) wire is there for 6X9's you would damage your headunit if you used that along with the rear door speakers!

Yeah

I have the Kaaps and they are great! But make sure you get front speakes to match them. Other wise your going to hear the rears and not the fronts. And use the amp, the kapas like power, and lot of it.

dont wire the 6x9's to the head unit until you detach the rear door speakers. If you wire your 6x9's in you will fry your head unit due to the ohm load being dropped.

do what that one guy said......you have many combinations you can go through with:

-drive front four with HU and let the factory amp pump the 6X9's
-buy a four channel and just run the rear deck with the front ones
-4ch amp pumping the rear four and letting the headunit blast the front ones.....many combinations

if you are looking for sound quality i would replace the rear door speakers with a component set as well as the front....it does take modification because you have to place the tweeter dome in the right location. Once the components are installed run a four channel....i have always felt that 6x9's are just for mid bass, so if you want some bass just buy like a type r 10 or something and run it with their m350....ikesound.com has dirt cheap prices on alpine if you are interested. even theType S' speakers sound better imo....

I wouldn't put components in the back doors, the tweeter will be to close to your head and you wont hear the front. Do a 4ch amp on the front ch you can run the door speakers running them at 4ohms and then run the 6x9s off the rear of the amp. As long as you use the refferance speakers in the doors (they don't require the power that the kappas do) and the kappas 6x9s in the back you'll be fine.

Or you can be like me and run a 4 channel for the 4 rear speakers and a 2 channel for the from speakers. also have another amp running my infinity perfect 12.1. very nice. get diamond audio speakers though, they're nice.

Could I run a set of 6x9s off of the stock Kenwood amp, then run the sub off of another amp? How many channels is the stock Kenwood amp?

I dought it would sound good. That amp is geared for 1 sub so it's probably preset for the lows only. I'm not for sure though, you could check to see if it has a crossover to see if you you can turn it to mids and highs.

I'll do that once I have the car. I'll probably start working on the custom sub box pretty soon too, because even though it's in a nice location, the stock kenwood box hangs down too low.

Yes. That is exactly what I did. The amp is really more geared for playing stereo than running a sub. It just doesn't have enough power to run a good sub. It works great for running at set of 6x9's. The crossover is in the head unit. Although I did switch the RCA's so that I could use the fader for the rear speakers. I pulled the pocket under the radio out and just unplugged the stock RCA's and switched to better cables. You could use the stock ones if you want to. I just figured while I had the carpet up I'd put better stuff in.

It is possible to wire the 2 ch to rear 6x9's if you were interested, you just have to mess with the headunit and freq. on the amplifier.

you just have to plug the rca's into the rear output of the hu then turn the crossover to whatever freq you want or just turn it off and have the hu do it.
