I want to get AWR motor mounts but is the rear one that necessary? It seems like having just a new front one really helps, but does having both help much more or is it just more annoying than helping?

welll I found that when I put in the rear one..the stock rubber mount was in pretty bad shape...like pretty much broken...so Id say its a good thing

falkofire - But doesn't it idle really rough now?

My front one was in good shape when it was pulled, and that's all I have in. The front does a lot. I may do mount 3 if KARTBOY ever makes an insert for it.

don't mean to hi-jack the thread but, I was inspecting my side motor mount. On the passenger side and I could feel a rip in it about a half an inch long. does AWR make these?

NO one makes them yet, but you can get the stiffer mazdaspeed mount from the dealers, no prob. It is not as stiff as a urethane replacement, though.

and to answer cbcbd's question, Wshade has done one/both mounts and can tell you the difference. Feel free to PM him, real nice guy.

Thanks, I will.

I'm aware that our motor mounts suck and all 4 of them would eventually rip or tear, but no one yet has replaced all 4, meaning that it's not completely necessary to do so, even if they do rip.
I know adding more power to the car will do even more damage to the mounts, but I'm just wondering if the benefits of adding the rear mount are actually worth any extra roughness (if any) in the ride.

The only mount different in the MSP is the #3 (passenger side), which leads me to think that #4 (driver side) is not that necessary with helping limit the twisting motion. This further leads me to think that just having the #2 (front) mount alone would do fine for limiting front/back motion. That's why I'm curious about any extra performance from adding the #1 (back) -I'll pm Wshade and ask.

But...
If the arquement for getting new mounts is that they are ripping then we should all be replacing all 4 mounts as I'm pretty sure all will eventually show rips/wear, especially if you're turboed and putting down more power than the MSP. And we saw, the MSP only changed #3 with the added power.

I'm guessing it might be more beneficial to just get a new #2 and #3 (or inserts for it).
