Re-Polishing 02 Stock Rims

I've looked all over this and other forums for info on stripping the clear coat from the 02 stock rims and re-polishing them. Has anyone done this. The clear coat is really flaking off on mine. I bought some aircraft stripper and some Adam's Polishes Aluminum Polish for after stripping the rim. MY question is will stripping the clear coat damage the polished rim? Will I be able to re-polish it when it's done? Thanks for any help.

I would advise against the aircraft stripper. It does nasty things to these wheels. I tried it and it pulls the clear coat, SOME of the paint under it, and then you get down to factory primer. I ended up media blasting them.
