rb26dett t28... upgrade?

you shouldnt need a pro, rick. you can do a swap in a day. the only thing even kind of hard is following the torque specs when you have to navigate between the runners.

almost forgot. the turbo you have is NOT ball bearing..its journal bearing just to clear that up. and how much smaller than a 28rs is this thing? i wanna kno if id be okay running 6-7psi on this turbo bc i kno u really cant do more than 5psi on a stock engine w a 28rs.

if you have a good midpipe you could run 6-7 psi. bigger intercooler wouldnt hurt. i wouldnt run more than 7psi without EMS (due to the open loop trigger issues sometimes encountered on the MSP), and i wouldnt run more than 8 MAYBE 9 psi without timing retard.

yea i have a pretty big fmic, and im gonna be making a mid pipe, and i am going to run 7psi... i also might hook my meth back up even though i cant tune for it yet... id rather run a little rich with the meth than lean and KABOOM!

Yea I could probably do it myself if I took my time, especially since I bought an air compressor for my dad last fathers day. I said it was for him ;) lol. I plan on making it as easy as possible this time around by swapping in a new mani/turbo/s-pipe combo so I don't have to waste my time with broken studs and s***. I may also look into some braided lines for the turbo. Hoping I can have all the parts ready for installation before late spring.

running rich isnt a problem, its the fact that open loop doesnt trigger reliably on these cars at low RPM... especially if youre at partial boost. based on what ive learned about the way its triggered, i dont think i would run any turbo on the stock block over 8-9psi since the turbo spools before the ecu starts to dump fuel. thats the real problem...

very true. its amazing the change that is made by the transition from one to another. scares me when I tuned mine I knew all about the ecu behaviour and then a few years later I tuned filippos p5 with a dsm afc and forgot all about it and then freaked out because when you want to do a tuning run the motor is at wot from say 2500rpm on and then i see the wideband readout and im like "no no no no! stop giving it throttle" then all of a sudden it goes super rich once it passes the crossover point. then Im like oh ya, mazda ecu, nevermind. meanwhile he is looking at me like im crazy.

yeah ive been in full boost and watched my AFR's hang out at like 15.4 for like a half second, then 3800 rpm and its immediately below 10. scary stuff - map based triggers on the piggybacks are way more consistent and reliable.

be careful with the rb26 turbos

them being ceramic i have seen the exhaust wheel snap off when people run them at anything higher than 1.1 bar

^ thanks, but mine isn't ceramic . I was reading about that though, its not the same turbo that I am talking about. I forget which one it is exactly

find the serial number and get the specifications from garrett or a turbo wholesale website. unless you have an r34 turbo, i think something is off. im pretty sure r33 turbos were ceramic and r32 were journal bearing. these are both things you should really know for sure. does it have the two bolt inlet and three bolt outlet flanges on the compressor?
