cx5 2012
Hello,

I have a 2012 petrol cx5 with 165 bhp.

There are 2 things i don't like about the car.

1. When the engine is cold you hear a loud noise for about 30 seconds. Is there something that can be done to stop this ?

2. There is a rattle noise comming from the engine. The rattle gets louder and faster when you give more gas. I think its the fuelpump. Don't know what to do. It's driving me crazy !

on the startup Edmunds.com explained:

the exhaust manifold has thin walls and thus transmits more combustion noise than if it was some old-school cast iron chunkus. When cold, the ignition timing is retarded which puts more heat into the catalyst to aid light-off. This retarded timing also has stronger exhaust blowdown pulses, and that's what you're hearing.

Like they mentioned, rather than a chunk of cast iron the CX5 has a tuned header for the exhaust. Which means the tubes are of set lengths to improve performance and economy. Rather than just dumping out into a manifold like most cars do.

There isn't anything that can be done to quiet it, but at least it isn't a sign of something being wrong.

Ok, thanks
I found out that when i start the car in the reverse gear the sound is much better.

Have you got an idea about the fuelpump rattling noise ?

Minor point, but wasn't the first model CX-5 the 2013? I don't think there is a 2012. Of course, they were sold for nearly all of 2012 (sales started in Feb 2012), so they should have been 2012 models in my opinion.

Have you taken it back to the dealer and expressed your concerns?

Hi steve,
I did, they could not find anything.
When the engine is warmer the sound is not as loud as when the engine is cold.

I guess it's normal for this engine ?
