Rattle in the Dash...Anyone else?

I've had my CX-5 since 8/12 and about 6 weeks ago the rattles started. I have identified at least two. The first and loudest comes from just under center dashboard speaker. As described in above threads it sounds like a bouncing coin or like a loose washer rattling. It is intermittent and comes mostly on rougher roads. I took it in and they couldn't reproduce the sound. They ended up tightening some screws around the doors, but this did nothing for the rattle. I notice that if I press my hand on the speaker and the dash area just beyond it the rattle goes away, so it is definitely a local problem there. There is a U-tube video of a rattle being repaired at just this location, but no explanation. The other rattle is hard to identify. I believe it is coming from the passenger seat sun visor because when I push my hand on the visor it briefly stops, but it's not consistent. I am going to a clinic for new CX-5 owners and will bring up these issues so I can update whatever happens there.

My dash rattle comes and goes, and mostly seems to be caused by the clear plastic vibrating in the gauge cluster.

I get a sound, only sometimes - pretty rarely, that sounds just like a leaf caught in an air duct wiggling under hi power, but just a bit more plasticky in sound. This happens regardless of the fan speed, and even if the fan is completely off. I'm glad you mentioned the clear plastic in front of the gauge cluster - I hadn't considered that it might be coming from a location closer to me...

next time you hear it try putting pressure upward on the headliner around the dome light. I thought the same thing about my dash area (17000 miles already yikes) but turned out to be some plastic bits up there rattling against the roof.

yeah i kept hearing a plastic type noise but only when my driver side visor was tilted down, everytime i tilted it up the sound went away, and then like you said if you put some pressure near the dome light it stops rattling , i think its that clip for the visor is just loose or something maybe even the dome light could be loose that makes that noise

i have officially given up on fixing rattles, I fix one another another one pops up a day later. First it was the gauge cluster hood, then the b pillars, followed by the door panels lol. I just made the AWR mount a permanent install and went back to enjoying the car. If it really is driving your bonkers though, mazdas has several service bulletins to fix the big rattles. But beware, often times removing things like door panels to eliminate a small rattle can unearth much worse noises.
