Rally2003's Build Thread

I forgot to post after the autoX/Mid-Ohio run. Had a great time learning my car more and the driving lines of the course. My best time of the day was a 2 minute flat lap with crap tires that included a old snow thire that I've had since I've ownedthe car on the right rear. The car ran great even though the powersteering went out, but I still had the best time without it. Having no PS for the track was fine and I actualy liked it more that with PS, but I need the PS for autoX. On the way home I made it about 10 miles away from my parents house and the water/alt belt snapped. I shut it down and pulled it off the road before she go too hot, but won't build positive boost. Vacs from 20 - 0 fine, but won't build after that. The turbo isn't blowing smoke and it doesn't sound too bad, but I'm in the process of tearing down the front to see if the turbo is bad, wastegate is stuck open, or BPV is stuck open. I'l also going to go over all of the piping, vacuum lines, and gaskets to make sure everything fits like it should. I wanted to take the MSP to Mid-Ohio for the GrandAm race, but looks like I might have to take the 2.

Good to hear you had a great time at Mid-Ohio. I can't wait to get back out there. Sucks you had so many issues though. Is the PS really that necessary for autox? It almost sounds like it's more trouble than it's worth with the overheating and other failures. I know you're low on funds but any thoughts to switching to an electric PS setup?

Yay, another 2!

i said all the same things you did about the power steering. get to the gym or start whacking off more corey. build up some arm strength and delete that s***!

The only parts I need PS is for the slalom. If the car was RWD it probably wouldn't be so bad, but the car is so stiff. I'm looking into EPS, but with no funding right now it is kinda tuff. I think it is the pressure line that failing now. It is soaked around the crimped part by the pump.

I took the front end apart and off the car. There is no oil to be found on either end of the turbo. It has minimal play, but the bearing has a slight grinding sound. The wastgate moves and the BPV looks fine so I have no idea why it just stops at 0 and won't build any posative boost unless the the actuator is acting up.

I'll be taking off the turbo and hopefully either rebuilding the turbo or buying a new/used one. I miss driving the car so much and not being able to autoX her sucks even more. I'm going to try to do some body work as well to get her prepared for some new paint next year. I love and enjoy Titanium, but I really want to go with Phantom Blue. The body kit will be coming off and the sanding will begin. I still need to buy some headlights to make my new grill. Then make a duct for the driver side fog delete my new air box. Soon to come will be rear camber plates, camber bolts (if necessary), thermal spacers for the IM and TB along with preparing for making new molds for the front fenders.

For this Sunday I'll be racing my friends MSP :)

Well I can move the WG with 2 fingers and the WG that Chris gave me I pretty much have to pull pretty hard with my whole hand. Fingers crossed this is the problem and she'll be running smooth again tonight.

That would make sense to me, considering your description of the issues.

The wg didn't help. I'm buying a used turbo and going from there. I'm pretty sure the bearing on the exhaust side is toast. There is minimal play ,but it wobbles while spinning around and makes a grinding sound at certain points. Hopefully I'll have this turbo on and have her ready to go by next weekend or atleast by the next autoX.

Finally running again and even better than before. The turbo I bought used online was blown, wasted$100 on that. Replaced that one with Marlon's old T25 and a upgraded WG and it runs like a bat out hell no. I'm pretty sure the spring is set a little stiffer than stock because it is boosting 8-9 psi and just keeps pulling. I love it. Thanks again to Chris, Marlon, and Evan for helping with parts to get her back on the road and autoX. Hoping to start some body work in the near future.

does this mean we get free CF paarts from you now? lulz jk jk. 9 psi doesnt seem like much but it does when it hits :) 7 on the stock just isnt enough after you taste 9.

It is crazy what a 2psi change does in a light car. I need to install my oil pressure sendong unit and afr guage now, as well az filter my egr and some other odds and ends.

Yesterday I shaved the rear trunk of all the emblems and welded the holes shut. Looks like crap right now because it needs painted. I also took the wing off and plugged the holes with plastic fasteners to keep it from rusting. Applied some blue RTV to seal them from water. Next I'll be taking off the front lip and other side skirt for more body prep. I also got a a mini filter to put on the EGR. Tomorrow I'm fixing the 2ndary O2 sensor and hopefully finally putting in the AFR gauge.

**** you. taking off all the parts i want when i finally get a new car. why are you shaving all that good stuff off?

The wing is most likely going back on, but after I make a CF trunk and that is kinda why I shaved the emblems off. Just depends if I make a different wing for the rear of leave it stock. I basically want to get most of the body work wrapped up before next autoX season. I'll be looking for another set of fenders too so I can make molds and still run the car around.

On another note, I have the main 2 dash lights working for the first time in over 2 years. I can finally see how fast I'm going instead of playing "Guess That Speed" while driving in the car with others. I also wired the gauge lights for the boost, oil, and AFR and hooked up the AFR. Fixed the wiring on my secondary O2 sensor and put a mini filter on the EGR. I might have found the problem for my sputtering too. When I scanned it it brought up a map sensor code. I found a ground point in that area that had snapped off most likely causing that problem because she is running great without any CEL on except for the ABS/Parking Brake (which have been on since I bought the car in 2007. I need to get a multi meter to fix that issue though. I have a unlinked circuit code for that.

I'm hoping today to install the oil filter relocation so I can actually hook up the oil pressure sending unit and then fiddle around with some other little things.

On a side not my soldiering iron died on me yesterday. She lived a good life. May you rest in piece. I will remember all of the great time that you helped me out. I'm going to post a pic on FB and see if I can get 100 likes. Lol.
8/2006 - 7/2013 R.I.P

Glad she's coming along nicely again, buddy.

My knock-off Dremel died a couple months ago. 2000-2013. I wanted to bury it in the backyard and mark it's resting spot... :(

lol, The iron was a cheapy and I was really surprised it lasted that long. I got my $8 out of it for sure.

My car now has an identity problem. Front lip, rear lip, wing, and side skirts have now all be removed. Trying to find all of the body problems now before she either gets A) Painted
B) Vinyl wrapped until it gets painted

On another note my car has negative camber in the rear for the first time since owning the car. I installed some camber bolts on the rear and it at least gave me -1* until I get my Ksport camber plates. I can almost fit my 225's under the wheel well now, but I have to wait until I make fenders before I can drop her any lower :(
