rain-sensing wipers in the snow/slush

I have started driving the CX-5 only monday.

yesterday we had a snow dump. For those that don't live in snow country, that means the cars in front of you throw a lot of water mist/slush on your windshield.
The intermittent function on the wipers was not doing anything. I thought the electronics were broken until I realized in the evening I have the rain sensing wipers.

For those of you who live in snowy areas, do you use the rain-sensing wipers in winter or do you turn them off/use regular interval wiper function?

Does your rain sensor detect the snow slush/mist on your windshield?

I tend to completely turn off my wipers (and use them manually) when it's below freezing and/or there's heavy snow around. I'd hate for that automatic function to result in a burned out wiper motor. As for the sensor detecting: the sensor is located behind the center rear-view mirror. It does detect a heavy mist IF the mist is covering the area of the sensor.

^^ Yup. I found the auto-sensing for snow only really works if it's warm & warm. If it's cold enough out it shouldn't stick and should just blow off. Misting unless you are passing a truck or something usually doesn't cause enough for it to go off in my experience.

I have my wipers set to auto almost all the time. The only time I don't is when there is only slightly wet roads with a lot of salt. What can happen is that the wipers get activated and just smear the salt-mist, making viability more difficult and then I have to spray the windshield. Other than that I love the auto feature.

I have turned mine off completely during snow and slush. I find it easier to manually use it for this.

Mine is off during the winter to prevent unnecessary salt smearing and mayby a burned motor. I treated my windshield with Aquapel this fall so I barely need to use my wipers anyway. I love the auto function in the summer though.
