Ok im putting in my system this weekend and have no idea how to remove the stock radio....help

I have a 2002 p5 with the big stock radio

Thanx

its a pain in the ass lol. my buddy and i bought a set of the removal tools and we still had a hard time gettin that thing out. they have a tool that looks like a metal "U" shape and there are two holes on each side of the stereo after you take the side covers off(little black strips on each side of the stereo. the "U" tools go in each side and your supposed to pull the stereo out. still a pain though.

They need to go in kinda at an angle towards center of radio. Then push outward on them towards each door. This pushes in on the clip parts in the dash & then it pulls right out provided the little rubber nub on the back of the radio hasn't become one with the brace. If it it still a hassle, make sure the face plate for the tape module is off, then have someone jostle radio around some to free the rubber support thing in back & pulling a bit while other person holding out on the clips. How hard it is depends on how long it's been in there. If never been removed, it will be more hassle than if it has been removed before. Be careful to support it after you get it out of dash while unplugging connections to not scratch the silver off the surround piece.

Follow exactly what they said, the only thing I can add is that it takes more force than you would think. I did it by myself and remember feeling like I would break it if I pryed any harder. In the end, I had to pry harder and didn't hurt a thing.

FYI -
there's acutally 3 contact points on each side of the headuint, if you only have 1 set of tools,(2 of the u-shaped tools) just use a micro screw driver in the bottom hole to totally disengage the metal tabs holding it in
if you don't have the cassette player, the plastic piece covering the space where it would go, pops right out, so with the din removal tools in and something in the bottom holes and the plastic piece out, there is a place to grab and pull. it should slide right out

word to the wise, cover all plastic molding with blue painters tape before, it's very easily scratched.

done right, the removal is very far from a pain in the ass

getting the stereo out is easy. pull off the tabs on each side of the stereo. dont bother buying the u shaped tools to get it out. take a wire coat hanger cut it into 4 sections. insert them into the 4 holes and push the wires outwards while having a buddy pull on the stereo. this is what i did and it only took me 10 mins to make the tool and pull the stereo out
