Radar detector placement

Not nessa-celery... I've had the laser warning go off and it's saved me, but you have to be behind or beside someone else and be luckey enough to not be the target. But other than that, you're screwed.
Laser scatter is *very* rare. That's one narrow beam. You're really only going to pick up scatter if the cop happens to be waving the gun around with the transmitter on.

Really, the only safe answer is "don't speed". Or maybe V1 will stop resting on their laurels and build a new detector with bumper *and* roof/windshield mounted receivers.

It's very rare that I'm really speeding. Years of racing motorcycles has cured me of the need to be stupid off the track.

I have mine my passport 8500x50 just to the right of the rear view mirror a couple of inches below the headliner. Then I have the wire routed through the headliner down the passenger side A-pillar down to the fuse box. It works great there. High placement is best for radar. Low placement is best for laser. I'm not too concerned with radar. First I never see it cops using laser much, secondly if you get a laser alert you're probably about to be pulled over anyways.

I've never seen a laser warning on either my V1 or my Beltronics (which does have a laser receiver right next to the license plate, and a jammer that I don't have turned on). And all the officers I've heard from are all using radar still here.

Plus I figure, laser is so instant, you're screwed even with a detector, so you might as well maximize radar reception.

you are definitely pretty right on with that statement and you indirectly bring up a great point. radar detectors can save your ass but following a couple of rules can help minimize your risk. The biggest problem is that people get a radar detector and think they can speed whenever they want. The truth is that the radar detector is just a little tool to help you not get in trouble. You still ahve to use some common sense and look ahead, watch for brake lights, dont be the fastest guy/girl out there and just use some common sense.

did you race ccs?

Exactly

not to jack his answer, but I thought CCS was motorcycles? Sperry (the guy you quoted) races a car. I race(d) motorcycles with CMRA. There were a few years that we were with CCS, but for the past few years we've been on our own. We are one of the strongest "independant" clubs in the nation. CCS is back in our area, but their turnout isn't as strong as ours. Some of the people that used to race with us are Nicky, Tommy and Roger hayden, Colin Edwards, and Kevin Schwantz.

When we were with CCS, I had some pretty cool ID badges as I also worked for the club. It got me on the floor of the Astrodome once during a supercross event.

Like houpro5 said, I race cars... SCCA time trials specifically. I just posted some in-car video somewhere around here in another thread... This one of me getting passed and trying to chase down a retardedly fast out of class Porsche.

I don't know anything about CCS... or motorcycles really in general. I took the MSF, got my endorsement, and haven't been on a bike since.

lol i got sperry and houpro confused. i should read 2 posts at the smae time apparently. i hadnt heard to much about cmra in vegas. our two biger clubs were ccs and wera.

And i am also a solo scca member too
