Racing Beat exhaust owners.....

Question- I'm considering purchasing Racing Beats exhaust for the Protege5 however I have a few questions about it first.
1. Does it reduce torque in any part of the powerband due to the lessened backpressure.

and 2. How is it's sound. I'm mainly trying to avoid the deep basey highway drone. When it's in 5th gear cruising at say (55-70mph) does it sound stock or is there a noticable drone.

I'm trying to find an exhaust that will not reduce torque and one that is more daily drivable. My old HKS Dragger exhaust had a sweet note but was a bit on the droney side while cruising. When I'm doing my daily driving (cruising) I dont want to perpetually hear the howl from the aftermarket exhaust. Any input? Thanks in advance.

1. Torque I can't really make a comment on as I haven't had my car dynoed. There is a dyno that shows the results of using the Racing Beat exhaust on our car on the Racing Beat website. Powerwise, it felt good, I didn't notice any real drop in the low end.

2. Sound is perfect to me. It's a little louder then stock at highway speeds (70-75), but if you have the stereo on it doesn't really bother you. In my mind it's just right the tone is nice and low, not ricey at all. And it's definetly not overly loud, at times you'll wonder if you can hear it at all. But rolling through a parking lot or something similar you can definetly hear it when the stereo isn't too loud. it's real nice. I love it. At WOT I would say, I ALMOST hear the engine growl from my CAI over the exhaust, almost.

Hope this helps,
Jared

one thing is for sure...and it doesn't make any difference what brand it is....if you increase the diameter of the exhuast to 2 1/4 or 1/2 like all the popular systems and tag on a free flowing muffler of any kind to allow the engine to breathe more....the low end torque is going to drop....but it increases after about 3K......its a balance.....give and take......its how it works.

No discernable loss in low end torque. Actually feels a bit better to me. The dyno sheet on RB's site show this as well.

As for the sound... certainly better than the MazdaSpeed axleback I tried first. That was loud, and droned bad. I'd say this one gets just a bit loud around 80mph, below that it's nice. Still louder than I'd like it be, but tollerable for sure. I wouldn't hessitate to take the car on a long road trip with it! :D

HKS makes sound dampeners that install into the tip according to the diameter. They claim it will cut the decibles and not the airflow. Anyone hear of these, better yet- anyone actually get a chance to try it?
Also, does the RB exhaust have a perfectly round tip so that a dampener would fit. How many inches in diameter?

The RB exhaust is the one that I will get when I purchase a cat back.
I had one of their exhausts for my 85' RX7 GSLSE and it had a vary subtle exhaust note. Not 'blarry" or harsh at all.
Even with no catalytic converters. :)

I agree with everything said here for the most part. It's a good setup, and works well with my turbo :) Me likes.

I havn't tried them.....but Bosal makes one for their system too.

Sorry Lazer, the RB doesn't use any type of silencer insert.... can't see how it could in it's current configuration either.

I have the Mazdaspeed Exhaust on my MP5 and it sounds sweet and low. I don't even notice it on the freeway. And in Phoenix a lot of the freeways are 65mph and most people drive them 75-90mph. It is really loud during acceleration, setting off car alarms and such, but daily driving it is nice. As far as power loss, I wouldn't know the dealer installed it before I bought it.

bosal or RB

Which one would be lower in tone? Bosal or RB? Im leaning towards RB because of what everyone else is saying. I dont like loud blaring exhausts, just the preformance and looks.

I should have a couple of these left in our other warehouse. Let me know if you want to save a buck or two.

If you look at the subject of the thread you'll notice it says, "Racing Beat," hence RB. A little observation can go a long way without demeaning the purpose of this post.

Just want to know where the best place to order the Racing Beat Catback Exhaust system?

I am convinced that this is the best exhaust system for the P5, just need to know where to buy it.

Thanks,
Ryan

We have special pricing on the Racing Beat systems for club members. I think there are a couple left in our SoCal warehouse. PM me if you're interested.

Best Exhaust

Wondering your opinions on the best exhaust? I've seen so many brands. I was looking at one on the SRM website that claimed a 9HP increase but others look to put out abuot 5HP. Any advice?

I just installed my Racing Beat exhaust yesterday and it sound very sweet, nice and low. Also noticed a little better responsiveness from the car. Not fast, mind you, but feels better.
