Race Seat Opinions

Been looking at getting an aftermarket seat for track days since I'm flying around in the stock seat. I don't want to use a harness(I have a 3pt Corbeau from autoX days I need to sell) until I get a rollbar. So a seat and locking the OEM belt seems the best option for now. These are the seats I'm looking at:

Corbeau FX1 Pro:
16lbs, $280, easy to find brackets, 5pt, not FIA. The Forza was a little to wide for my tastes and is a tube frame. The FX1P is fiberglass and a tad smaller.

Momo Cup
16lbs, $380, bracket may be a chore, 5pt, FIA. Also a fiberglass seat.

Also been looking at Cobra and Sparco... anyone have any suggestions. I'm 6', 150lbs.

From my experience working at a racetrack, I can tell you that most drivers prefer Momo or Sparco racing seats. Don't look for just comfort but also, safety support. I believe there is a ratings guide-- you might be able to look it up. Anyway, you should really try out each of those seats at a store before you commit to buying one.

I own a sparco speed seat and that would be right up your alley. I'm 6' 165 32" waist and it is a perfect fit. I would suggest though that you get the more expensive one that is fiberglass or CF since there will be no creaks or pops that I encounter with the metal tube frame

i know a few folks who use the momo start...it seems like a good deal: $220 and 15lbs. i'm 6', 175 and i fit in it pretty well...it's very comfortable. dunno about the FIA rating, though.

If all you are doing is track days I would just get whatever fits you well. I wouldn't worry about using a harness or not (I would). But I'm not even going to start debating about harnesses/rollcages. (deadhorse

I would go with whatever is the easiest set up for you. And unless you are doing wheel to wheel racing I don't think it has to be FIA rated, but you should check with whoever is sanctioning your track days.

i know you are looking at these seats for track days, but how about for daily driving? would these be comfortable enough for everyday use? my friend had a fixed racing bucket in his car and he said it was a pain to get in and out everyday. but obviously for the track it is great. there are some seats that hold you well for daily and enough for track use.

for track days, do you have to have a non-reclining seat? If NOT, I strongly suggest the sparco torinos. I have them and drive 100k a day back and forth to work, very comfortable. But they also hold great in autoX. quite a bit heavier than stock though.

thanks for the input, I'll check out the Speed and Start seats. As far as daily driving comfort, its not a big deal lol.

apexlater- please share your thoughts on rollbars and harnesses. I was under the impression having a rollbar is the proper pre-req for a harness. Are full cages with halo bars the minimum to safely use a harness?

bump for other suggestions/experience. I sat in some Momo seats a few days ago and compared dimensions to the Start. Looks like it'll fit me great, and since its FIA approved I'd rather have it than the Corbeau.

I have a pair of leather sparco rev (custom) going in to my car. I sit a few times while its still on the ground. It fits me pretty well. Today I went to wedge engenering to get sparco sliders and brackets. Some how it cost me around $320 - $390 (pair) just to have them install to the car. Anyone has another suggestion on what should I do (boom07) ?
