R.I.P. My Baby.........Good Times

Sometimes gut reactions take over common sense.

True, but before any gut reaction comes instinct. LIFE OR DEATH? Hmmmm? :D I like my life. I won't let even the deepest burning sensation in my gut tell me to swerve around a deer, and launch off the side of a damn mountain. Hit it, and pay for the damage, and hope it dies so it doesnt have to suffer. If it doesnt die, run it over again. I've seen people leave wounded animals in the road. Thats disgusting. Hence the saying "Put it out of it's misery". But you are correct about the gut thing somewhat. An animal pops out, sometimes you just DONT wanna hit it. But I still say he was driving like a tough guy. And rolled it 15 times? That sounds a bit much. 15 times and youd be a vegtable. Unless it rolled all 15 times in the air. lol. ROLLERCOASTER WAAAH-HOOOO! :D Oh and aside from all my beliefs on this whole subject. I'm glad your alive and breathing. The miracle that allows a body to function, live and learn, is far more amazing than the engineering that allows an engine to run. Adios

Hope this clears this up for you. These skid marks are more than 50 to 60 feet long. He was going at least 40 to 50mph. I don't care how hard you swerve a MP3 or MSP at "20 to 25mph", you WILL NOT lose control like that. I owned an MP3 and trust me, it would not lose control at that slow of a speed.

Open your eyes moron. think like an investigator for a second. Look at the road, look at the back ground scenery. You can see how curvy the road is and in the background you can even see how the road ahead makes a sharp turn around another corner. He was trying to be a rally car driver. He wasn't as good as he thought. And he and his car paid for it. Hopefully he learned a lesson. And thankfully there wasn't another lane where another driver could have been.

wake up moron he swerved to keep form hitting a deer....

Who counts when the car is rolling? I have been over in a car, but I sure as hell wasn't counting. Watch WRC sometime, rolls happen so fast you won't be counting. Maybe it did go fifteen times, maybe it's a slight embellishment.

I agree that the skid marks look like plowing, they certainly do not look like braking. And it's obvious understeer, otherwise the tire marks would get closer together as they progressed. These do not appear to be doing that. I think it is hard on the brakes, steering full to the right, and car going forward. Anyone hear of the traction circle, or tire adhesion circle? Tires cannot be doing 100% of two things at once. Accelerating probably would not have saved this, but a lift off the brakes and a little less turn in might have. I agree with Morris that autocross or a few track days/schools can prepare you to react better when this kind of thing happens. After all, a "deer" is only a moving cone right?

When I was in school, my buddies and I hit a deer at about 40 mph. ****** up the car but the deer got up and ran away. I think I would have hit the deer and taken my chances with the airbags.

If you believe that a deer was there.

Britt

p.s. by the looks of the skids, he had an ealry turn in with an early apex, this is characteristic of entering a turn too quickly and trying to scrub off speed. Had he had a later turn in and a later apex he likely would have been able to see said deer and avoid it or stop.

IMO of course, I wasn't there.

Britt

but then agian if he had hit the deer think about it, the deer could have sent him airborn depending were and how he hit it, he coudl of flown up 20 feet then slammd down and then possiblity of the car blowing up kapow... ... everyone says hit hte deer but with a turn like that i would have probablly done the same thing.

It's a Mazdaspeed Pinto now? Oh wait, it's a Hollywood edition because of the location right?

I don't have to try to make you look dumb with spelling like that.

Whoa. Instead of retorting his remarks, you lower yourself to criticizing his grammatical errors because you have nothing better to say? Dude. This is the internet. Go **** yourself. Stop posting on the thread if you don't ******* like it. You shouldn't have even posted the first one and just let it be! Revel in it, jackass!

Do you see others crying foul?! No! You see his friends and other people saying they're glad he's ok.

Dude. If it were a bunch of us standing around talking about this and looking at pictures of the scene, and you came in saying, "Look! Those skid marks are too long. He was trying to do a bit of rally driving! He learned the hard way! ...I'm glad he's okay, though." I'd prolly beat your silly ass.

Haven't you heard of the saying, "If you don't have anything good to say--don't say anything"?
I'll be the hypocrite by saying s*** to you because it needs to be said! You didn't need to come in here blasting anyone.

WTF is wrong with you? Are you mental? Get out of here!

GET!*@&^%$@!^%#$ OUT!$^!@%&*%^@#$ OF!@#^%@#$&@#$ HERE!@%$@#!#^@$!@*&%$%@!#^%@!$#^%@!$#^%$@!#$

*ahem* Yeah. Anyway.

I feel kinda upset about this thread.
Vic posts that he totaled his car, and that it is still in the canyon. And people are swarming him like vultures for parts and questioning his story. That does not seem right to me. Even if he isnt dead on with his story or if he is way off , who the hell cares? Think about when you were in your last accident.... It all happens so fast. Im sure it is hard to remember details , when all that is going through your mind is "I'm going to die." Who cares how many times it rolled, or what was in the road, Or even how long the skid marks were because of how fast he was going. Point is, his MSP is in the canyon, It is gone, the damage is done. I am so glad that this is just a RIP MSP thread, opposed to a RIP Dr Sound thread.

Like I said you can say what you would do all you want but until you are in the situation you honestly can't. Sometimes things happen so quick that you react before you have time to think about the consequences.

Animal jumps out in front of you. Gut reaction is to swerve. Ooops I am driving on the edge of a ravine with no guardrail. s*** too late. I caught the dirt and down I go. Too much can happen too quick to be able to make a rational decision. Or any decision for that matter. You can try to rationalize all you want what you could have or should have done after it is over. But while it is happening sometimes there is no time for thinking. He could have been playing with the radio. Might have been in deep thought. Might have blinked. Anything that could have not made him see the deer until he was right there.

I'm not gonna try to analyze the whole situation or the variables because I wasn't the one in the drivers seat. But I have been in situations where everything happens too quick to even realize what is going on until it has already happened.

no no no , I am not referring to you specifically . Thats just the overall impression I got, when I read through this thread after not since yesterday. It just seems to me, some people are so insensitive about this. But maybe they dont know Vic as well as I do.

no im totally bummed about it... i'd prolly through myself off the cliff if i did something like that, thats how much i love my car...
i dont care to know the physics of wtf happend why ponder and s*** WHO GIVES A s*** it already happened and whatever you say and analyze isn't gonna be exact the only person that knows exactly what happened is vic.. if he wants to say he was doing donuts next to the edge and fell off then he can say or do wahtever he wants.. point is the car is still totalled...

vic, you said u were looking at the focus? are you talkign about the new euro focus? the one thats supposed to be comming over pretty soon? isn't it awd?

That's the same impression I got too. It seemed like every other post was "hey, sell me your parts." I think enough people made it clear they'd be interested in the parts if he wants to sell them, so there's no need for anybody else to express interest in the parts. If Vic wants to part it out and sell them, I'm sure he'll let us know.

I can't believe people are doubting vic here. Especially his story adds up. I bet if threw a deer in front of you, you are gonna swerve to avoid it, its natural instinct.

Is the motor up for grabs?

Complete?

Dude, give it a rest! A guy nearly dies and you are like, wow, glad you are still alive. How much do you want to part out your car? I mean it's all about you. Have you even read about the posts!! The guy flipped 15 times and is completely disoriented by the whole event and provides pics about his near death experience and all you think of is, how much can I get for your tranny? WTF?!:wtf: I agree with girth

Besides......

This thread has gotten about as popular as the Jennifer Love Hewitt / Salma Hayek thread. I'm not sure I'm too fond of that.
