Quoted for springs install

So I won a set of H&R springs for my car back at the OCC meet. Well I was driving around and happened to pass a Midas so I figured, what the hell, I have them in the trunk, let's see how much they'll charge. Told the guy at the desk what I wanted, I guess he looked it up in the computer and came back with "I could have it done by the end of the day, take about 4 hours and would cost you $425." I almost s*** my pants. I know most of you will say just do it yourself which I probably could do, but I figure with the cost of renting the spring tool, I'd rather just have a shop professionally do it. What is a realistic price and does anyone know of a shop in north jersey where I could take it?

I was quoted 350$ at one shop and 400 at another. I did it myself in 2.5 hours, it really is a breeze if you follow the "how to". The back two springs can literally be done in 30-40 min. As for renting the tool, autozone took a $50 dollar deposit but refunded me the money when I returned it. So in the end I didn't even pay for the tool.

To bad you live in Jersey...I'd do it for free, ok maybe a couple cold brews and we could call it even.;)

Yeahhh I'll bite the bullet. Even though I've done every mod myself, I guess I just feel intimidated by the whole spring compressor thing. And I guess with the money I'll save I'll just use that to get my rear fenders rolled:) Now just gotta find the time

I was quoted $285 for an install here in VA, So surely you should be able to find a real shop to get it about the same price.

The front is a bit tricky if doing the first time on your own. They require a bit of finesse to remove from the collar using the coin trick and OEM jack. You could easily stretch your brake line if you're not careful. Best thing to do is hire some local help and have them come to your residence to help you out. I'm fairly experienced with spring installation but was glad to have a little assistance. Better than spending 5 times as much for a potential oversight.

On a side note, a drop that aggressive is going to require some decent shocks. Otherwise you will erode your OEM dampers very quickly.

+1 for new shocks. Your stockers will not last very long and the handling will be inconcistent at best. You will be bouncing down the road.

to bad you live in north jersey I would do them for ya for 50bucks a corner I just did a set on a friend of mines 3 last week after work on my lift at work...

I did my Bilstein shocks in about 4.5 hours. That included getting the car up on a lift and then cleaning up. I re-used the stock springs. Most of the time is on the front struts because you have to dissassemble them to get the spring off, but I think I could do it in about 2-2.5 if I had to do it again. It's really not that hard. You should not pay more than $250-300 for something to install springs on this car. $450 is ridiculous and as was mentioned before, I would consider upgrading the struts/shocks if you're going to be in the vicinity. Such a shame to have the stock struts out and not actually replace them with something worthwhile.
