Quickest MSP

Evo kicks the MSP's ass very badly. Best friend owns one, I get to drive it alot. They are bad ass.

Of course he is running low 12's w/ full custom 3 inch exhaust, no cat, AFC w/ BR settings, Greddy boost control, running 22 psi, BR air filter kit, exedy clutch and flywheel.

Also, handling is ****** awesome. Point the car where you want it to go, floor it, and hang on.

so on the autocross track who would beat who... im sure on the twisties that the speed might not b able to ebat a evo becaue of the evo massive power

there is a replacement for displacement it's called, BOOST, or N20, or better than average driving skills. I've beaten many a faster car simply because I'm racing a poseur.

hahaha, nah, God created turbo heat to drastically increase our under hood temperatures to give the V8's a chance. Boost lag was a present from Lucifer!

DiSplacement replaceMent. and cobra's aren't very fun unless you're going in a straight line. point was that you're not going to compete with the evo for anything that would be worth spending, and you might as well start off with that platform. the evo has pretty much unlimited potential, an incredible chassis, plus awd and many other advantages going for it. if you had asked how you would have been able to compete with a cobra at a drag race, the answer would have been to sell the mazdaspeed and get a cobra. you just aren't going to compete with cars of this caliber in this car without serious work.
also, there is no set answer as to "how can i compete with an evo." there are so many different paths you can take it would be rediculous, and the simplest thing to get sure results would be to get the evo to start with. there isn't a magic answer to your question, so if you want to know the answer you need to research

i like it too, but the evo is on a whole other level performance wise. looks/stereo stock wise, well that is a personal opinion. if you wanted serious performance though without pretty much designing the entire engine over again by yourself (even then you're still lacking awd), you shouldn't have bought this car.

I wouldn't say sell mazdaspeed and buy a evo 8, Seriously you can make the mazdaspeed just as fast. Look at joes msp 265whp, well s*** that is faster than a stock evo, so you can make it fast just a matter of how you do it. I can't stand the imaturity of this board. Why can't we just be civil. I don't know why we even compare the msp to the evo (why even bring it up) it seems nobody on this board has an open mind as to what the msp is capable of. If you want to be truthful why don't you compare this car to a GTI, Jetta, SER, RSX, SI. It's like comparing a 350z with a ferrari 360 modena. It just doesn't make sense to me.

My $.02,

now for my 1/4
13.9 @ 14psi

Sorry Newbie for this level of courtesy from other members on the board

hmm, there has been development in the aftermarket for the evo for 10 years, runs 13's bone stock, can run 11's on stock internals on pump gas, and can outhandle a msp stock, as well as having awd and a rediculous aftermarket for suspension. horsepower does not equal speed, and his horsepower was done on race gas with no cats, far from being streetable. i like the mazdaspeed, but really there is no comparison to the evo, and i wasn't the one that brought it up. i have an open mind as to what it is capable of, but realistically to make it truly fast you will need a new fuel system, new internals, porting heads, new turbo, some way to control everything. really, the only thing the msp has going for it is the iron block/aluminum head. the fs motor has been around since the early 90's, and there are few over 300hp reliably on 93 octane, while an evo can do that no problem. i don't think im underselling the capability of the msp, but you may be overselling it. it is a nice car, but realistically getting daily driven, reliable, usable power out of it wont be cheap or easy. it is possible, but far easier in evo's and other motors that were made for a turbo, not just ones that had one slapped on

Hey jred I totally agree with you, and thank you for repliing in a civil manner. Anyway I'm not out there to make a 10 sec msp, low 13's to high 12's would be perfectly fine. But as you said it is possible with money and alot of time and tuning.

You bought the wrong car if this is important to you.

Must you piss in the cheerios, man? It's a decent 1/4 mile car, and people just want to compare. Sheesh.

As you can all tell by my name, the EVO8 is my car of choice. But if you guys actually read my thread, you would see that I was talking about how horsepower deficiencies can be fixed relatively easily whereas handling is harder to fix. I was comparing the EVO to the STi, not the EVO vs. MSP. My point was that they (EVO and MSP) are very similar when compared to other vehicles in their class. My wife has a 1.8t GTI and that may be faster car in a straight line, but the suspension is crap in comparison to the MSP. So if you were to add a little horsepower (200hp stock) to the MSP, IMO it would be a class-leading vehicle.

By the way, you would have to spend some serious $$$ to hang with a STOCK Evolution on a racetrack. Given equal track time, the EVO will gain at least a second per lap given equal drivers. Thats why I REALLY want an EVO, but I will be happy with an MSP due to how well it handles for the money. Plus the stereo ain't half bad!!
