Installing the SS and can't get the old lever out. The pics on the How-to aren't working. Anyone have a quick description on how to do it, or have another pic. Thanks.

Do you mean the old shifter? I'm not quite surre where you are in your installation.
If you could give us a little more detail, I am sure that someone will be able to help you.

Did you unscrew the Bolt underneath the car???...Also..this is a small clip that holds the shifter down..it's black..and it looks like a horshoe...w/ 2 holes at the end..if u don't remove that piece it will not come out...

P.S. Don't break the horshoe piece otherwise ur screwed..and the shifter will not stay!!

Ok, wasn't sure if it was the white thing or the black one I am supposed to be working on. I'll go out and give it another shot. I don't have a retaining clip tool. Any suggestions on what to use?

Argh. Are you sure it's the black metal thing. It doesn't seem to want to bend to let go.

yeah you need to get that out, use needle nose pliers, or you can do what i did and take some cv joint pliers and grind them down into some retaining ring pliers =)

Be careful with that piece, be patient, and get someone to help you with some small screwdrivers to help pry it out as you sqeeze it.

After that clip is out it is all gravy.

I tried to use pliers and flat head screw drivers to remove it but newer P5 is harder to take it out this way. you can get a tool that looks like a plier that has two tiny points at the end and usually has 90 degree bend at the tip.
You do need to watch out for not damaging the rubber. once you remove the metal clip(assuming that you have removed the screw from the bottom of the car) you can lift the shifter and two white plastic pieces will follow with it (don't forget to see how two white plastic pieces are fitted).

When removing the screw that holds the shifter from bottom of the car, you will probably have to remove the heat shield and after you install the new shifter you will notice that heat shield is either touching the shifter or awfully close to it. With mine, It was touching when I go into the reverse and the first gear, so I got two aluminum spacers from hardware store and installed it between heat shield and the car.

Hope this help

Problem: There is ALOT of play while the shifter is in gear. ANy ideas what it could be? Were there 2 bushinhs at the bottom of the shifter or just 1?

there were 2, they fit on both sides of the bottom of the shifter. There shouldnt be any play, it should feel tight as all hell.

also be sure you got the dust boot on, as well as all the white peices and snap ring all the way down and snug.

It's the other bushing that's the problem then. Off to go find where the heck it got off to then.

Found the bushing, all is well again. And I've got to say this thing rocks. Thanks for all the help everyone.
