Quick easy ways to increase horsepower

I've currently got

Injen SRI with K&N filter
Ractive long tube header
Magnaflow catback
MP3 ECU

It is noticibly quicker, but still NOT FAST!

I'll soon be adding, hopefully, the JDM intake cam for a wee bit more juice
Then a highflow catted midpipe

should bring my total hp to 110. lol

once you put your cam on, your really going to want to think about a AFC. the AFR go to s*** on this car after full exhaust. Youll get the most out of your mods w/ the AFC, which is what im doing (had i not quit my damn job last month, and also needed new tires at the same time)

AFC does not increase HP, it just give you control of Air/Fuel mix, which helps the car run correctly, rather than either lean or rich

By taking control of the air/fuel mix, you can turn down the amount of fuel that is preventing the motor from making additional HP when the ECU goes into open loop mode. So yes, an AFC will certainly increase HP.

yeah the AFC will give you more power across the entire RPM band, because it will make the most use out of your engine with the proper air/fuel ratios.

hmm.....AFC also useful for stock MSP application i take it?

Looks like i have something else to add to my list. :( getting expenssive. lol

yup.

youll just need to redo the map.

i cant wait to get my AFC. im expecting at least 5-10hp across the entire band, and at least 10 peak.

When i got dynoed with the mods in my sig, my AFR was in the 16s in the low end, which is incredibly lean. Then around 4200 (where peak tq is) the ratios drop to the 12-14 range (ideally where it should be) then at about 5200ish it drops down into the 10s, and then in the very top end, the 9s. Thats extremely rich, and with the right tune, ill have alot more power in the top end.

i got a few grand on my list. I've gotten a good chunk of it already though

modding 2 cars is double the cost though. lol

Mine is w/o any power mods too.

int - 1000-1500
suspension - 1000
paint job - 2000
wheels - 900
new deck - 1000
Full exhaust - 950

...see how fast it adds up? lol

Dude, you crazy.

My exteriors are done, other than MSP lips on each

Projector headlights and fogs are already in the works.

Powermods-Full stock MSP setup with hard pipes and BOV with relocated MAF
and I guess AFC, lol

Suspension-(Espilar's and Tokico Blues)-thankfully wife doesn't want suspension

Already got wheels and tires on both
Audio, she's already got $2000, i got a few hundred, but i rather hear the motor

Already got exhaust-thankfully, she's actually done with modding her car now

i've spent 3200 over the past month and a half...and my car is STILL down...just missing a few small parts to get her togther...i'm waiting on my rear mount...the rest of the stock lines/gaskets for the turbo...picking up the fittings/vac. line for the vacuum block and the studs/nuts for both sides of the turbo today after work...after all that is done, i have to replace my windshield (huge crack all the way across...$250), brakes (80 for pads + cost of having rotors turned) and my sideview mirrors (150, cheap CF f-1). fun stuff.

oh no...still need forged internals, welded lsd, i have 2 bent rims that i need to replace. i'm probably going to pick-up a spare block from a local guy and buy the parts i need for a rebuild SLOWLY...so it'll be sometime next year before that's done. i'll have to upgrade my clutch as well.

before my turbo died, that money was allocated to get me out of debt...so, i'm not-so-lucky.

AFC will not "drastically" change the WHP numbers....it will help, but don't expect the world to change...

My last dyno 110whp with MP3 ECU, OBX header, High-flow catted midpipe, K&N Typhoon intake, and Racing beat Axle back off a MSP...

Total cost for "power" parts = $ 1,010.00

Ask yourself is 15whp really worth the money...lol...

Turbo kit can be had for $2500 used...and will give you around 70-90whp....what is the better purchase...

my bad. i was half right. lol
Tuning owns joo!! lol

However its a lot easier to go zoom zoom boom.(beer) Also you can get that with a NOS kit and be a hell of a lot cheaper to boot but still risk the change of zoom zoom boom.. plus having to refill it.

If I wanted a fast mazda I would of gotten a Mazdaspeed protege, the P5 does a great job of carving up my 96 mile jaunt from College to Work that I do twice a week. Stops good, looks good, fits all my stuff, and handles like a dream.

That being said, I am still going to do more bolt ons, but only for personal taste reasons, I don't expect much. I had full bolt ons on my 94 Miata and it was slow, but it was still fun. The P5 is the same way.

Just my .02 cents. (ricer)
