Quick acceleration in Reverse

I own a 2004 Mazda3 hatchback and have noticed that when I put the car in reverse, I better have my foot on the brake as the car will accelerate quickly on it's own. Just wondered if anyone else had experienced this? I checked the TSB listing and didn't see anything on this. I plan to take it to my dealer and have it checked out.

Thanks.

i take it its an automatic??? if thats the case your idle may be to high, or it may be due to a warm up routine where you are putting it in gear before the idle levels off?? may be just a simple idle control issue if you aren't touching the gas and it starts to accelerate? does the same thing happen in drive? just put it in gear and don't touch the gas and see what happens??

good luck with the dealership.

well actaully i have experienced somethign similar. i have to modulate the clutch release otherwise it definitely goes fast lol.
Just make sure your idle is levelled off in the morning when you start the car.

Yeah, it'll idle pretty fast on a cold start and the car will seem to jump out of a parking space.
On the ATX however, there's a safety switch that prevent shifting out of park without pressing the brake.
Just let the idle settle down before you put it in gear. It's better for the engine, too.
