Our cars bacially use the same pumps as Fords. Don't use power steering fluid it will mess up the pump. They use ATF, and I'm not sure what grade exactly to use. You can check your owners manual, and it should tell ya exactly.
If your pump is already making unhealthy noises drain as much fluid out as you can, and put in ATF Type F, and that should help it for a while. Something else to remember is that power steering fluid is not compatible with ATFthat is is the system already, and will ruin most of the rubber seals, and hoses. It is an expensive fix since you'd have to replace the pump hoses, and the rack and pinion.
Oh and don't always take the service writers opinion on things. His job is to get you to pay for services at the dealer plain and simple.
