Alright guys its about that time. Got a couple questions.

08 Mazda 3 GT hatch

1.) What is the best CAI/SRI I can buy? Price/installation being no issue. I have a mechanic buddy who will doing all the work on my car and has the ability to fit CAIs not meant for the 3s. I want the most horsepower gain and the best sound with no possibility of water getting in; obviously.

2.) Which is the best Optima battery for me to buy? Red, yellow, ?

3.) I'm going to do the Monster Advanced timing Mod. Any tips/tricks?

4.) I'm buying a voltage stabilizer to balance out the electronics as well. Any suggestions on a brand or do they all pretty much work the same way?

5.) Iridium spark plugs; waste of money?

Thanks for the help guys!

Thanks for the help guys!

which CAI/SRI to get is the age old question.......first you need to decide rather you want a cai or sri, first make that choice then explore your options. i personally like the sri because i do not want ANY chance of sucking up water. with that being said there is simota, cobb, corksport, hps, takeda, cosmo and more. but honestly there all gonna have about the same power gains (cai vs other cais or sri vs other sris), its just a pipe and a filter! (ive spent countless countless hours of research for what intakes to get) my sri is in the mail! and when i get it ima post a full review! hehe ;)

and no the Iridium spark plugs are not a waste of money, they are highly reccomended for the mazda 3's! I bought NGK IX Iridiums for my car and i love em! They perform well, better throttle response, and i gained some gas mileage from them! hope this helps! (drive2)

As MZ3SPORT stated, age old question. Answered many times.
SRI's are better for top end power increases and easier filter access. Plus as he also stated, if you live in a very wet area like Florida or Washington state, are less likely to suck in the ole' H2O, though I have yet to have a problem w/my CAI.
CAI's are more street friendly, offering better mid-range power increases. Usually more costly though. The three that people seem most impressed with are the Injen, Fujitsu's and K&N's.
I have the Mazdaspeed, designed and built by AEM for Mazda. Same as the one available on the aftermarket but it has it's own splash shield.
I got it at a deal or I would be very upset as no CAI or SRI will offer you much of an increase in power, no increase in fuel economy and will cost @ least $200 for the privilege. It does offer a nice sucking sound, if you like that, but don't expect much more. I like it because it cleans up the engine compartment a bit. To me though, they are all more hype than actual function.

2.) Which is the best Optima battery for me to buy? Red, yellow, ?
None! Optima's are overpriced and over-hyped. You can buy a perfectly GREAT battery for a lot less money that will do the job just as well. You don't need it. Save your money for something more useful and long lasting... like an engagement ring, or a house payment.

3.) I'm going to do the Monster Advanced timing Mod. Any tips/tricks?
None. It's fairly quick and simple to do. Depending where the sensor is already, you may only get 1-2* out of it. And remember that all modern cars have a knock sensor, so if you delve into the pre-ignition mode, the sensor will cause the timing to go retarded anyway.
(edit) BTW: It's Monzsta Advanced Timing Mod, the screen name of a former member here. I haven't heard from him in quite a while so I suppose he's moved on to bigger and better things.

4.) I'm buying a voltage stabilizer to balance out the electronics as well. Any suggestions on a brand or do they all pretty much work the same way?
A voltage stabilizer is a big capacitor that stores power and releases it as called for. They usually cost a lot for what they do. Again I say, don't waste your money.

5.) Iridium spark plugs; waste of money?
No. They are the required spark plug as issued by the manufacturer and engine builder of the Mazda3, and most modern cars use them. They can last up to 100,000 miles w/o being changed. (75k is the recommended change period for the Mazdas.) Expensive? Yes, but w/that kind of life, you get what you pay for. With any other (cheaper) plug you may get pre-ignition causing the plug to fail prematurely or even engine damage.

Thanks for the help guys!
Your welcome. 'Hope I have offered some insight into your queries.

And since this is not really a questions/answers kind of thread, I will create a new one for you and leave a forwarding address. :D
