Hello 2nd day in my 2008.5 MS3 and i have a few questions.

Any advice on breaking it it? So far i'm staying under 5k rmps, trying to vary my speed on the highway ( Does this do anything?) easy breaking and so forth. Any other words to the wise?

Can you put a blow off on these without hurting anything? I love the sound.

I have a 2008.5 do i need to worry about any recalls?

It think thats all for now.

beat on it already, bet you someone test drove it before you bought it and broke it in. blow off valve, save your $ and get a CAI , recalls.....there are a few out there.

wow lenny....dont talk until you know..anything. Jasnall, mazda says to wait 600 miles and I myself did, but I didn't really beat on it till 1200. What your doing is perfect and keep it up. As for blow off valve no but you cant get a CAI/SRI and a bypass valve to get more sound. www.protegegarage.com is a great place to check out. And ken the owner is a great guy

I heard alot of problems with the bose sound system and how the sub turns off at certain speeds. yes. there are bov's out there that are direct bolt on. (search Button) it wont hurt anything. And 3, welcome to the forums.

welcome to mazdas247!

as for your questions: Break in is viewed differently by everyone. There a number of threads on that subject around here. Personally I think that you will do no damage to the car by driving cautiously for the first 500-1000 miles. After that you can feel free to drive it a bit more aggressively...

for the BOV, I think you will get more performance out of a cold air intake and you will still have a much louder spool up, similar to the sound you get from a BOV. If you must run a bov, I would suggest running it in recirc mode until you have a method of tuning the ecu for all that lost air.

for the recalls - there is a thread somewhere (i think its stickied) listing all the recalls, your dealer's service manager could give you the full run down.

my car had about 50 miles on it when i picked it up. i didn't really have a 'break-in' period. like stated, i know the 50 miles on the car were HARD miles. also, i've read that mazda 'breaks in' the engine at the factory etc. either way, i have not yet launched my car had. i JUST turned 1k miles last night. i hit boost often, but do not really beat on it.

like stated above, try the MS CAI before the BOV.

listen.

I drove it off the lot with 10 miles on it, so i doubt it had much test driving. Plus the dealer had a few that were meant for test drives, those most likey have been driven hard.

and WOW nice responses!!! haha I've always wanted to be apart of one of these Car specific forums!

I just wanted a blow off mainly because i like how it sounds. But i know some cars aren't really meant for them.

And for the spool sound, Ya i wish i could here the turbo spooling louder, so Intake will do this?

yes, intake you wil hear it alot better, it sounds freeking sweet.. you also hear the BPV alot more.. Get the Turboxs Hybrid bov if you want a BOV, it is 50 recirculation and 50 blow off, so you get the sound of blow off but without the problems with full Blow off..

they have a lot of differet choices for you. cobb is good quality. I have the mazdaspeed cai but im not sure if that is currently for sale or now

for beak in do what your doin till about 1000 miles, As for the intake i would say Cobb or mazdaspeed to avoid warrenty issues, BOV i run the HKS on VTA sounds great and no driveability or running issues at all. Sure it drives a little differently then stock but its all about adaptability, and i actually like the way it runs now better.

honestly, the only thing you really have to worry about for the break in procedure is make sure you get your engine and transmission up to temp before you do anything interesting. as jbiird said, there's a number of differing philosophies behind breaking in engines, but one thing is always constant: bring the engine/trannie up to temp before you beat on it!

as far as bringing the engine up to temp, don't just idle it for 5 min...drive it carefully around until the temp is right. this way, you warm up the trannie as well and avoid idling for long periods of time. idling is actually not the best thing in the world for your engine because it allows water vapor to build up in your exhaust system.

if you want to take the conservative route, break it in like mazda recommends in the manual: vary your RPMs and go through all the gears. it's not just varying your speed on the highway, because that means you're only in 5th or 6th gears...make sure you get 1st-4th gears too!

so what happens when you shift, you just get a hicup or something because its rich?

Nothing happens. The rpms drop like they normally would till your back in gear...all i could tell is they drop a little quicker, but i have had mine on for 10k miles now and it has never stalled or dropped below regular idle or ran rough at all. Every once in a great while i will get a little pop between shifts at low rpm, but that is the only "simptom" of running VTA.

Went to the dealer today and the MS CAI is still "suspended until further notice"

LOL "suspended"? what is that supposed to mean. Ill prolly look at Cobb. So I have about an hour commute to work so on the freeway im switching between 70-80mph, and sometimes il get in the slow lane and drop to 5th and go 65-70 is this ok? or should i try hitting a few offramps and running through the gears again.
And holy balls! I gave it a little tickle over 6k today...(ricer) man ! chirped 2nd by my surprise then the traction control was like I DONT THINK SO BUDDY and really made the front stick. I cant wait to open this thing up.
