Questions about the mp5

I'm interested in a new 2002 mp5, because the local dealer is overstocked and is offering some fantastic deals. Is there anything particular i should watch for/avoid when buying?

Also, are there any common problems or serious issues with this car?

Thanks

yes...there are some things to watch out for...apparently after you buy this car one serious problem is that you have a unquenchable itch to drive it all the time...also beware that you may get stuck sometimes just staring at it...kinda like staring into the sun you just have to do it...lol

really no problems that i can think of...when i bought mine drove it off the lot and haven't had any problems at all...just make sure the dealer isn't trying to hose you is the only advice i can give

Well it's a 2002, and theyre desperate to get rid of them since they have a whole lot of 2003s. Im pretty usre I can get him down to about 13k.

thats for DAMN sure! just do a walk around, check the engine, if the dealer is overstocked there shouldnt be a problem.

my dealer subtracted the mileage off for us even though it only had 40 miles on it...who cares i save a couple of dollars...lol

the only problem I ever had was choosing which color! ;)

As with all my miatas, they are practically bullet proof. When you've owned many new fords/chevys that had serious engine/drivetrains probs within the first few years, Mazdas are a blessing. Not to mention that No damn cavalier will ever look this good. For the money you cant beat the style or handling or aftermarket. oh and Pro5's are MUCH better looking than its competition *edit so not to bash other cars*:D

Trust me, you'll be very pleased. :D

I did the same as you before I bought my P5 . I went on this forum and asked a bunch of questions and these folks are really helpfull . Because of all the good advice I got on here I ordered my P5 one week ago and can't wait to get it . I think you made a good choice of car . I am planning on keeping mine 10 to 12 years then we can both retire.

The only problem is that you're not going to want to keep it stock!! This forum will be able to answer ALL your questions about how to modify it. Rush out and buy it NOW!

i would make an offer between 13 and 15, maybe 12. i got mine for 15. but since it is a last year model i am sure you could get it cheaper.

Your right about that! I was debating between midnight blue and laser blue..i eventually chose laser blue for its sportiness....but damn this car looks good in any color!!

I've got a 2002. Will be in my possesion for 2 years already come this June 7th - my, how time flies!

And so do the miles - I just passed 43,000 this past week.

Not a SINGLE mechanical issue. My warranty is useless, because Mazda builds such fantastic cars!

The only thing I would watch for on a 2002 is the cold engine rattle. There is a TSB (technical service bulletin) for it, and it has been a widespread annoyance for us first-year-P5 owners. The engine sounds like a deisel truck until it warms up. It is NORMAL and KNOWN and is NOT harmful - just annoying. However, there is a fix, and the dealer should perform it for no charge - it is a warranteed issue. It's a simple replacement of a valve, and a re-programming of the ECU, I believe. I will need to get mine done before the warranty expires.

This service should be done for you before you drive the car off the lot.

Here's all the info you should need: http://www.protegeclub.com/forum/showthread.php?s=&threadid=20336

Other than that - pick a color and enjoy!!

What the hell, offer him 12 and start from there. Is it an '02 or 02.5? You can tell by the side marker lights and the wheels.
