Questions about Headlights On/OFF

So I just had to replace my driver side headlight low beam, that's not the issue. What I'm trying to figure out is if the low beam bulbs are supposed to turn off when you turn your high beams on. I always thought the lows stayed on with the highs and fogs would turn off if highs went on. When I turn on my brights the lows and fogs turn off. Is that right? I also don't know if it matters what way the white plug for the low bulb faces. it's sorta "T" shaped so does the bottom of the T face in , out, both left or both right, or does it matter?

My low beams turn off also when I put on my highs. I cant even get the fog lights to go on with the drive lights. I was told that in real heavy fog you dont want the head lights on with the fog lights.

Daytime running lights : Low Beams
Running Lights turned on : Low Beams w/optional Fogs
High Beams: Low & High Beams together....Fog lights turn off

If yourr low beamms didn't turn off when your high beams are on it would be illegal. The low beams or fog lights should NOT be on when high beams are on

the lows stay on when the highs are activated on the p5. and the white plug that is "t" shaped....should just fit the bulb adapter (the bulb with two prongs plugs into a black adapter with 3 prongs) and really can only go one way? especially since the bulb should only sit one way in the housing.

Mine lows stay on when you pull the lever back to flash your highs but turn off when you actually turn the high beams on.

Again if your low beams and high beams are on together its illegal all cars run one or the other if you don't want to lisen and chase down a problem you don't have then go for it but its your supidity have fun paying the fine when you get a ticket. When you turn your high beams on it will turn the lows and fogs off every car is like this dual or single beam setups

maybe its cause my hid kit?? I dunno, i never use my highs anymore anyways. I am not sure if it's illegal in CA or not?

Obviously something must be different from Canada to USA where you have DRL or not. Mine are as other US cars have stated - lows and fogs on and hi turns both off - until going with HIDs in the low beams. Now lows stay on with hi beams and if I have lows with fogs on, all the stick does flashing the hi beams is toggle hi's and fogs, kinda police action style. If I turn brights on then I have HID lows and hi's on, but hi's are like fogs due to having the lights pointed down to not blind people with the HIDs. Halogen fogs are useless, I only run those at dawn or dusk with parking lights. I did the simple fog mod where they run with parking lights only or with lows but not where they stay on with hi beams. I never run anything except lows now since doing HIDs, fogs and hi beams are just decoration mostly or just to help be seen better, they sure don't help me see better compared to the HIDs.

I'm running HIDs for my lows as well and it stays on when the high beams are lit.

this is how my p5 works,

parking lights on, nothing else
lows on, parking lights on and option of fogs on or off
highs on, lows and parking lights on, fogs off

this is a usa car btw
