Alright, I have the possibility of getting a 1989 RX-7 for next to nothing and because I'm definitely not a rotorhead I was wondering if you guys could provide some input.

Anyhow, all I know about the car is the year and that it has some coolant and fuel system problems - she also stated that is has no back seats - not too much of a big deal since this would be my project car. The only unfortunate thing is that it's an automatic and that would definitely be something I would have to change. So yeah, do you RX-guys think it would be worth it to pursue something like this? Like how hard are these cars to work on and are transmission swaps logicall feasible? Just looking for some simple advise so thanks in advance.

I'd go looking for another car actually. It's far easier to get another car with a manual for the same amount of money and less work. I'd say unless the car is totally cherry and has a great engine I wouldn't bother. I would definitely look for another car if it has coolant issues like white smoke at start up and loosing coolant. Not all rx7's have back seats either in fact it was an option. Most came with storage bins. These cars are pretty easy to work on. Check my winter journal to see what you'd be getting into.

as cheap as FCs are you're better off just getting a manual one...you'll spend plenty of money doing a swap & wouldnt end up being worth it...

Cool, alright thanks for all the advice - I wasn't too sure on the car but now I think I've made up my mind. I just had a coworker come up and be like "You like Mazdas, I'm trying to get rid of one if your interested." But yeah, it seems like the cons are greater than the pros so I guess I'll look elsewhere.

I chalenge you to look for two weeks in the classifieds without one coming up. You may also want to view the rx7club forum in the for sale section

(werd) they're are always plenty...I cant look anymore cuz I always find one I want but I have to wait for my tax return to get mine

I wouldn't get an automatic if I were you because it would take most of the fun out of a fun car. I really want to get an early 90's turbo FC sometime, I've been looking on rx7club collecting ideas and doing reaseach.(peep)

Yeah I ended up not going for it. Originally it was going to be for free (how can you pass up free rotary goodness?) but then the chick's b/f stepped in an started demanding money (and too much of it) so I just didn't pursue it. Was a nice idea though...

ooh, well if it was free you could have used it for parts :D
