Question: Port and Polish?

ok boys and girls....before numbers. i have just come back from the dyno. thought it migh have been a little higher, but the run was done in the middle of the day and was one of the last cars run....so there was still lots of exhaust fumes haning around and the air was warmer.

anyway, i got 103.3HP at the wheels. will scan the graph etc tonight and post when i can....talk about dip for the VICS!!!

sorry it was 103.5HP at the wheels - see attached graph...oh and also another thing that probably reduced the overall power - my oil is almost 5000km old

Excuse me for my ignorance because I dont have the funds for the proformance mods, but if you got 103.5 hp at the wheels then what in the hell does my 130hp stock engine get for hp at the wheels?!

you're probably looking at (going off what i've done etc), 97/8 hp at the wheels

as a pretty general rule of thumb for fwd cars, what the engine produces in kw at the engine is what you'd expect to see at the wheels in hp.

so, the mp5 is 130hp at the engine in the usa right? that works out to be 96.9kw....so, you'll be looking at around 96.9hp at the wheels. i know that's really general, but it's a good way to work it out.

here in australia our engines produce 98kw at the engine (131.4hp), so at the engine, i've got an increase of around 7.4hp.

i spose in the conditions, i'm pretty happy with that

zeus, do you know what your advertised duration is? i know 0.050" is the standard for measure them, but advertised has a real lot to do with the cams as well....you could say it's like the difference between a O shape and a 0 shape at the top of the cams - O being a lower advertised duration compaired to a 0 shape. i think that makes sense....

anyway, i'm getting my base dyno run on saturday which i can post in this thread so then when i get the cams and headwork done, and get it re dyno'd we have a comparison.

later

Most all cams are 'advertised' at .050" lift, but mine are custom and nobody's advertising anything. Mine are both 257 degrees @0 lash, or full duration, if that's what you mean. Lobe centers are symetric @105 degrees with .020" lift.

cool, yeah 0 lash is commonly referred to as advertised duration, not something that's advertised in mags etc...

it would be interesting to see the difference between your engine with 257@0 duration compaired to mine (when i get them in) of 266@0 duration...

Springs and ti retainers are available, and not hard to install if you have the head off. Impossible with it on. MMS has everything you need, if you got the money.

not true... springs and retainers can be swapped with the head by pressurzing the cylinder to (i think) 40 psi. you just have to be careful, cause if it depressurizes and the valves fall into the cylinder, your screwed (and then you wont have to worry about using this technique because the head will be coming off anyway:p )

just a thought.
