Question...please don't flame (kinda long)

:
2005 Premium White Pearl RSX Type-S
1st off if you are going to flame me for this then don't waste my time. I test drove the 2005 RSX type S the other day and I am in love with it, I'm considering trading in my MSP for it but I'm just not sure yet. I was soooo impresed with this car, the tranny is like silk, easier than anything I have ever driven, 10000X smoother than the MSP tranny. Now the question is what can I do to smooth my tranny out like this? I already have the Kartboy bushings, what else should I get? The other thing that impressed me was the smoothness of the power band, all the way from 1000 rpm to 8100 rpm!!!!! So smooth all the way through, what can I do to improve the smoothness of the MSP power band? I'm assuming Unichip will do the trick, but is there anything else? Thanks for any help, and don't worry I still LOVE my Mazdaspeed!(rockon)

Yeah Kartboy bushing are actually gonna make your tranny feel harder. Well, crisper, I guess, but yeah. If you want a really smoth power band, an NA car is the way to go. I would certainly buy an 05 type s, turbo charge it, and remove all the honda badges IMMEDIATLY!!

HAHA I like Hondas acctually, 8100 rpm is just NIIIIIIIIIIIIIICE I know I'll never have as smooth as a power band as a N/A car but there has to be something out there that can smooth it out a bit. As far as the shifter bushings go, they are the best mod I have done to date! Anyone who doesn't have them order them right NOW! They only charge $25 for them but they are worth like 1 billion dollars!

Oh yeah man, Kartboy bushing are definatly teh s***. Just sayin they're not gonna help smooth anything out.

As far as smoothing out the power band, you could always get new injectors with a Haltech f10x or e6k. Or the AEM computer and tuning it yourself. Tuning is really the best way to smooth anything out as far as engines go.

GM Synchromesh or Pennzoil Synchromesh tranny fluid.
As for the powerband, last time I checked, the RSX was all up top, like all Honda's.

i have the kart boy in my protege and the mt 90 from redline the gear oil helped out alot.

The rsx s shifter might feel good brand new, but they use cables to shift, so after a few power shifts its gonna get sloppy. My boy has a rsx s and i replaced his cables twice already within two yrs of owning the car. Plus that car makes no power till 6000 rpms. I spank him all day long. Its ashame cause there bad ass cars, but my msp is better.

believe it or not my friend owns a 2004 type s and he was impressed with the mazdaspeed. i just thought that was kinda funny cause wanted to drive my car to feel the diffrence. I think that your makeing a step in the right direction. I say stick to the speed. but id encourage you to find new challanges in other cars or elese theres no way to truly tune your car better

"the grass is greener on the other side" Hondas are known for their clutch/shifter feeling. THe MSP is not even close.

first off you mean "ACURA" badges. and why the type-s is a bad ass little car. the k20 seeries motors make way more power n/a than our cars do turbo. its just silly that people feel that becasue honda is associated that its a ricer car. honda cars are awesome just because the majority out there look like crap doesnt mean they suck some can be amazing! but if you were just meerly stating you like shaved badges then....ok, lol!

coming from Honda's I was used to a very smooth shifter. And it was the one thing I hated about my mp3. The mp3 was really clunky and stiff.

My MSP is tons better then the mp3 is that makes sense. Even my buddies orange msp wasn't as smooth as mine for some reason.

Anyways, Honda's trannies are top notch. I have driven nothing from Mazda that is as smooth as my old prelude. Not the 3,6,or even 8.

The MSP's power band is all over the place. Only way your going to make that smoother is by trading it in.

Or you could try getting a FMIC. I put the hiboost on mine last weekend and smoothening out the powerband was the greatest effect.

Normally after the initial 10 minute warm up period I would never get a consistant pull when stomping on the gas. I had bad hesitation and heatsoak. After the FMIC went in I did several 40-90mph runs and the car pulled clean every time with no hesitation or surge. I haven't had time to really put it to work and it's raining like crazy here today, so this is just initial impressions.

I'm in an unflashed 03 at a whopping stock boost level of 5-6psi. My only other mod is a cone filter on the stock pipe (put there till my perrin sri gets here).

I don't think there is anything cheap you can do to solve your problem. The only other option that quickly comes to mind is the unichip and either will cost you over $800.

The RSX Type S has a wonderful motor and tranny. Problem is, it's a Type S, NOT a Type R. The S stands for "Soft". Dynamically, that chassis needs a complete suspension redesign and even then it won't be as good as your MSP. Not enough suspension travel in the rear. Check out Grassroots Motorsports project buildup of a Honda Civic Si suspension, which is what the RSX chassis is based on. Even after coilovers, they couldn't get it to handle. But hey, if all you do is cruise around in the RSX, you'll be fine. Just don't show up at an autox, you'll die of embarrassment!

I think you guys may be wrong about this. I saw a while a bit back where they took an S, did coils, wheels, tires and they were pulling OVER 1g . I wouldn't be so quick to say the s doesn't handle.

ok ok the rsx's suspension is based on the ep's in terms of placement but not the actuall suspension they handle very well actually 68 mph in the slalom! although not as good as an msp or mp3 it still holds its own. and how many g's it pulls is irrelivent it all depends on how big the pads are they use to measure the g's the bigger it is the more g's its going to pull, heck if i had a big enough pad i could prolly pull like 2g's out of my car, haha. but seriously the type s is a damn good car that is faster than our cars in a straight line but not on the track! stop comparing these cars anyway, two totally different cars for gosh sakes!
