Question for those with HIDs

Just installed HIDs from DDM Tuning in the 5, and the Wife just told me that one was flickering...

Did you install the HIDs to the Stock wires, or run a Relay off the battery?

Has anyone encountered Flickering?

You should run off a relay or disable DRLs.

I ran a special ballast though that was able to run on DRLs with no flickering, cost about 50% more for the ballast but it was worth it.

I have DDM HIDs installed on both my Mazda5 and CX-9 directly to the OEM wire harness without any relays and they both work perfectly fine. Neither has DRLs so if yours does then you do need to run it with their harness that is directly from the battery and it is relayed.

No DRLs on my 5, I think I have a spare ballast from my last car, I'll see if that fixes the issue... as it could be a bad bulb or ballast, then a call to DDM is in order.

I'm also considering to install HIDs on my 5. It does have DRLs. Can any one recommend a quality kit that has relays for DRLs. I'm totally clueless what type of HIDs I should order. Thanks!

DDM tuning supplies kits that are some of the best for the money. I have used them on 3 vehicles. You'll need H7 bulb size. They are on sale right now for 35 + 16 shipping! Just a few dollars more than a regular halogen. I just ordered a set for our new 5. Installation is easy. You will need to modify the harness to bring the input wires to the outside of the rubber grommet. 30 seconds with a sharp knife. Save those old bulbs though. If there is a warranty return...DDM asks you to send them your defective part while they test it before they will send you another. ^^^ after 2 years I had a ballast that would flicker in the cold until it got warm. DDM replaced it no problem.

Although I dont have a 5, I have DRLs and they told me to run a relay, Now I have since moved from Ontario area and I picked these up in Toronto. One relay gave out on me, took it out of the system. The one with no relay will flicker, and turn off, unless I turn my lights on prior to turning the car on.

Did you ever find out the issue? I am having the flickering in one of mine as well, happens to be the passenger side. I thought the bulb was loose, but I've found that it does it even when sitting still. It's not constant. It comes and goes. I have the slim ballast and bulbs from DDM, running off the stock wiring with no relay. I do not have DRL's.
