Question for those who have installed HIDs without cutting the housing

Hey bud, when I installed mine, I wasn't ready for the spacing issue. I ended up taking the "Spacer" that the bulb plugs into, and the harness plugs into, it's a black piece about 1 1/4" in length, and drilling the center out, and a 3/4" drill bit, and then notching out a side piece. Then I can take the HID bulb, and slide it into the spacer, which allows the bulb to be firm against the housing and that retractable spring.

Hope this helps in your thought process.

pics of what you're speaking of? I want to see cause I just ordered a set of those aaaaaand I haven't heard of anything like that....

look up theglowdoctor on ebay. easy to install hids, any color you want. and no cutting of the housing..... never heard of that before....... you just hook everything up, set the ballasts, insert bulds, put retarded spring/clip (worlds dumbest invention) back on the bulb and you're set.

He's talking about installing a projector retrofit. not just hid's.

im not sure about that kit. i have the mini h1 kit in mine and it fit great. nice and tight thru the reflector bowl and the mini projectors seemed nicly balanced in there. they dont bounce around in my car and cast an awesome light pattern. i was very happy with that companys product and customer service.

Awesome, that makes me more comfortable. I went with the D2S projectors because they seem a little shorter than the mini H1s. My goal is to have the projectors as far back in the bucket as possible, and have the shrouds cover all of it. On some of the swaps I've seen, if you look from the right angle, you can see the projector assembly behind the shroud. My kit is supposed to be delivered tomorrow, I'll update when it shows up.

mine came with 2 silicone washers. i used the smaller of the 2 because it allowed the projector to sit further back in the bowl and you cant see it when its tightened down. also ive got the housing and low beam bowl painted low gloss black to help hide everything. looks nice imo. very happy with that company and their product.

Ill chime in I guess. I got the Mini H1 kit. Fits like a glove. But I just had a thought- I have the sedan housings. I picked up the graphite shroud (translucent one) cause it looked neat. behave a poke around here and you should stumble across a "how to retrofit projectors" thread. There are quite a few pics of people's setups. I myself am a little more fond of the sedan housing with the one bulb for hi/lo and I picked up the h1 for its bixenon capabilities. Don't let me come across as smart though, I read a lot of what I just said on here and on HIDPlanet. All that aside, post up some pics when you get them installed :)

HIDplanet is definitely helping me in my ventures for my project! I'd suggest looking into that site to a noob retrofitter (as myself) any day.

I am also swapping to sedan housings, for the same reason - I'm using the bi-xenon projectors. Did you run into any issues with mounting the sedan housings in the P5? What about wiring? My plan is to use the lowbeam H7 plugs to activate the HID relays, and the high beam 9005 plugs (no relay) to directly activate the high beam solenoids. I plan on doing everything plug and play, so that I don't have to modify the stock wiring at all.

I didn't have any issues. I had a brain fart and didn't connect the fuse on the harness to the batt so it wouldn't finish the circuit. Once I did that, it was all okay. Its all plug and play. On the high beam solenoid, connect the high beam wires to the solenoid ones. I used electrical tape and connected them- its not the cleanest but it works just fine. I the PO on mine converted the lights to run the H4 harness (3 prong) so I needed to re-convert to the H7 but you're already set. If you want, get two male H7 plugs to wire to each solenoid on the projector. That'll look a great deal cleaner

I almost forgot you had HIDS Brian.
