While I was cruising down Mission Street in Santa Cruz, I was just so happend was thinking something and totally forgot about the crosswalk. Right before the crosswalk, I saw a chick was in the middle lane waiting to cross, but it was not enough time for me to stop for her. Anyway, so after I pass a bike cop came out to get me. Now, the citation says "not stopping for crosswalk" and "no proof of insurance" (i'll get this over done).

Any of you know what the fine is for not stopping at a crosswalk? Also, any way for me to get away with this ticket? ^^

Thanks

Uh..Of course I know the law says I have to stop and I KNOW i have to stop, but it was just too late for me to stop. What I'm asking is does anyone here know the fine I'm looking at? or possibily a way to get away with it?

well, did you make eye contact with the pedestrian and knew that the pedestrian was going to cross? or did you not see the pedestrian? or did the pedestrian not look like they were going to cross?

If you do go to trial get a "trial by written declaration"

If you lose, you still have the oppurtunity to go to trial in person.

Yeah, if the pedestrian is just standing there not starting to walk already, you should be able to fight it off. If she was already walking and you made her stop, it's a righteous ticket, but if she was not moving or waiting to move, then you should be fine.

Well, the person JUST started to walk when I saw her, but before that she was standing in the middle of the lane. Anyway, I sure fill that faggot ass cop's quota..

LOL, you got run down by a bike cop?

I sure hope it wasn't a pedal-bike he is talking about, that would be even more embarrassing than what happened to me. I got pulled over by a NYPD female cop which is bad enough, but she was in a 3-wheel Cushman scooter (picture below) and she got me for no seatbelt, no drivers license with me, and no proof of insurance with me. Two years later, I still haven't paid the ticket, state of NY can shove it, I'm a Connecticut licensed driver. (hah)

As for the Santa Cruz guy that started this message thread, I would try to fight that crosswalk BS. It can be difficult to monitor those crosswalks, especially in urban setting if the crosswalk spans a few lanes of traffic. Hard enough to watch out for other cars let alone figure out and monitor every person on the sidewalk and keep watching to see when they'll hop out into the crosswalk or dart out from in-between cars on the side of the street into the crosswalk.

Pedestrians have the right of way in cali dude. once their foot hits the street they have everyright to cross it without impedance regardless if they are in a crosswalk or not. good luck with it

death to all pedestrians....j/k....

Where i go to school, I mingle with cars and traffic, right with the cops too.
They don't care if i walk in the middle of the street or cars try to run us over.
they got other stuff to care of.

but, i call a BS on that ticket!!

After talking to my friend, he said since my record is clean I should just take traffic school. If I contest it, the judge knows that I know about contest option, and if I don't win at the court, I may not get traffic schoo, thus I'll have a point on my record perma. My buddy said just pay the ticket go to traffic school and get it off my record...
