question about the stock wheels

hey guys, been browsin' through the forum and i can't seem to find the answer to this:

how heavy are the 2003.5 stock wheels (the redesigned ones)?
and am i right to assume that the widest tire i can fit onto the 16x6 stock wheel is a 205? can a 215 fit (out of curiosity...)?

answers to these questions will determine whether i

a) powder-coat my stock wheels (gunmetal/black) and put some good rubber on them.....

or

b) store my stock wheels in storage and spend more money on lighter aftermarket 16/17" wheels and good rubber.

i'm leaning towards option a) even though i'm sooooooooo very tempted to buy new wheels with my non-existant money. ;)

and usually the tires are pretty heavy too....... hmmmm..... so now, i have to find tire weights to do some subtraction.

thanks!

np...to give you an idea, my 17" konigs w/tires 215/40s are 37lbs each...so figure the stock wheels are prolly around 18lbs would be my guess

the biggest tyre i've heard being put on the stockies are 215/45/16 falken azenis sport....even though falken recommends atleast 7" wide rims, they seam to work fine. not sure who has them, but there is someone on this board that uses them on road and autocross and loves them. they'll be my next purchase :D

there ya go, as we all work together!

heh. thanks guys. i guess the rims aren't that heavy at 16lbs. i guess i'll powdercoat them (or even spray 'em myself!) and save myself some dough for good rubber and some other goodies...

whaddya guys think?

ps: 215s on a 6" tire? hmm....

i'm definately going to buy a set when my originals go slicks. pitty they are the only road race tire out there that we can get that keeps stock rolling diameter :( why did mazda have to pick a sh!thouse size tyre!!!! GGGRRRRRRR

i agree Twilight when it comes to just about alot of stock tire sizes on different cars. damn them!! ::shakes fist::

i personally want to keep 16" wheels. i like the racing hart CP-035. lightest 16x7 available (well that i cant find anyway). they are only 10.8lbs - see http://www.wheelspecs.com/specs/wheelmodels/312

that's what i call light, pitty the cheapest i've seen them is $368.54 each...but then again, if you're after every last bit of weight reduction....

too bad there have been some quality issues about Rota that i've heard about (esp. the most famous shearing of the spokes during autox by a subie driver)....

i think i'll stick to using the stock wheels and 205/215 rubber... then when i get into more cash, i'll just swap the rubber onto another set of aftermarket 16"s...

nothing wrong with putting some badass rubber on rims u already have, meaning on stock rims. im doing the same to my stockers.

yeah, i might just end up powdercoating the stock rims instead...

though i have a lead on some cheap 17" silver enkei RS evolutions.... damn.

would the 17"s fit? they have 215/40 rubber on them. hmm... i forget what the offset is on them. in what range should the offset be with that tire size?

anyone?

EDIT: nevermind. read rishie's fitment receipe and found that 215/40/17 rubber needs wheels with a +45 offset....
