Question about signs on the side of the road...

So pretty much i'm running a Valentine One and i was wondering why it goes off on those signs taht light up explaining different traffic situations such as construction or what not. Do they spit out some kind of radar?? I don't see why they would need to unless they were one of those setups where they show you how fast your going. Any ideas? Reason being, they sometimes trip me out in thinking they're something else....

9500i solves this problem...

(notcool)9500i.... haha just kidding. it's a great unit and great idea but i've read the reviews about the GPS not always working correctly and people paying the price for it. The Valentine is SICK, the first day i got it saved me from points. I'd definately recommend it to anyone. I'm sure anyone who has it would. Live and die by the arrows....

ive tried both and like the V1 better. the 9500i isnt bad by any means im just a fan of the V1

Are you sure the signs aren't triggering the laser alert?

Nope, definitely radar. This is an old article, but the best I could find (I didn't try real hard).

The new generation of "smart" radar detectors includes a built-in liquid crystal display capable of displaying up to 64 characters. When such a detector receives a safety message, it first sounds a special tone to alert the driver before displaying the message. A second message can also be sent and displayed with the first, so the system could both warn of a hazard and tell the driver of a reduced speed limit.

Because the transmitter also sends out microwave signals on the K band, drivers using older radar detectors would still be alerted to a traffic hazard, though they could not be told the specific nature of it.
