Question about Honda 2.0 vs Mazda 2.0

i just want to say that this thread is both awesome and hearbreaking.
1) awesome, because I haven't seen so many pure facts and real discussion in a thread in a long time (isn't that really supposed to be the point of a forum?)
2)danget, why the **** did i like Beau convince me to buy longer rods?!?!?!

Question: Where can I find more information about mazda gearboxes in general? This H-series box sounds very interesting. I'm guessing it won't bolt up to the FS block though. Steve @ NSN said there's a possibility of the 3's box mounting up though. That'd be hot. (im almost certain the gears do swap at least).

Nearly any tranny can bolt up to nearly any engine with the right modifications.

heh, good call. I assume that means you know that the 'holes don't line up for the bolts'. What I do wonder is if an adaptor plate might be made or something like that. Any ideas? Might anyone possibly have any diagrams for the bolt patterns of engines/trannies?

I know i'm not putting much into the content of this thread, but for some reason i'm compelled to comment. I've had my N/A FS-DE in my 03 LX, and traded it in for a K20a3 powered Si. there is SO much difference in the two with throttle responce, how it handles basic bolt-ons, the sound it makes, etc... The differences are huge, and the K-series just seems so much cleaner and more refined than the FS.

those who don't know, the K20a3 is the 160hp/130 version of the K-series with a 9.8:1 compression. I'm actually planning to get a K20a swap w/ a six speed down the road soon. It's the 220 crank HP version with close to a 9k redline and an 11.5:1 compression ratio.

The RSX-S K20a2 and the K20z3 in the new 06 Si (which are the same minus the intake mani and crankshaft) have an 11.0:1 ratio pumping 200hp.

The bore and stroke on all K-series are the same, but the differences are in i-VTEC programming/camshafts, compression, and the flow of the head.

I only wish my FS could do what the K-series does stock. Not trying to start something, but it seems to take a turbo FS to keep up with a stock K20.

And there are K24 variants that produce the same horsepower, but because of the displacement, create more torque than the K20's. A boosted K24 is a torque monster...

Anyway.. yeah... Maybe I did contribute more than I thought I would.

Well, an FS-DE is about as basic as a japanese engine from the 1990's comes (the original F-engine was from '79!) and you're comparing it to what is often regarded as the best 4cyl engine ever made (F20 excepted?) with all the usual honda trimmings?! i would hope its a damn sight better.

there's still hope for the age old fs - i hope to get into the 14.7's this weekend and i'm no where near at the limits of the engine.

however i still look forward to f20b @ 10000rpm and 11's

I put months into an FS and only mustered as much bhp as a stock k20a...and there is very little room for me to squeeze more power out...even when I finally get ahold of my ems...The ridiculous primary works of art that the brits put on K20 installed in Elises are the stuff of legends...just a header that alone adds nearly 50hp to it...and in the end leaving a very streetable 300whp NA 2.0L with a lot less work put into it than one would think...

The k20's are the best 4cyls made in my opinion...and I would put them even higher than the F20's(way more peaky, and just a hondata allows the K20a2 to rev as high with nearly identical output)...I actually disliked the A3's in the Si's (no offense), but my neighbor still has a white RSX-S and it is the most fun FWD car I have ever driven...

None taken, I don't particularly care for the a3 as compaired to the K20a or a2, but still, the a3 outperformes the n/a FS. Even though they say it's got no torque, it's still got 132, which is about the same as the FS.

besides, the engine I wanna swap will actually be a K20a block with Cosworth headwork and Hondata. And yes, Cosworth is finally doing work on Honda K-series.

yeah, they finally severed from ford and are striking out on their own to amazing success...I ought to call them up and see what they could do with my head...
