Question about automatic transmission.

I just came from the Mazda dearler and they told me that changing the trans oil on my automatic Mazda2 is not necessary. Is this correct? I'm lost! ;p

There's no such thing as lifetime trans fluid. I do a 3 quart exchange every 5k miles with my oil change. Given I drive my car very hard and the transmission works harder it should still be changed. They even suggest it at 30k miles to do a flush. I prefer to spend a few extra dollars and know it will last than hope they are right and watch it die at 60k miles lol

Yeah, you definitely want to get your ATF flushed every 30k or so. Mazda ATX's are known to be hard on ATF; just ask Mazda3 owners (I used to be one).

Mobil 1 Synthetic ATF *used* to list compatibility with ATF M-V. I used it in my 3 and it was great. Not sure if they changed the formulation or only removed the compatibility listing from the bottle for legal reasons, but these days I'd just stick to the Mazda-branded fluid.
