thanks for any help guys!

I wouldn't screw the plate to the dash. A couple of 3M Command adhesive strips should work great though.

the GPS unit that i have came with a disc that had an adhesive on the back of it, but it dosent want to stick to the dash, would the 3M Command strips work better?

Definitely wouldn't put a screw into your dash either haha.. There must be some sort of strong adhesive strip that world work.. I'd try 3M command like he suggested, they are super strong.

My only concern with that location would be that you may have a flying object in the event of an airbag deployment. I have my GPS hard mounted on the stack below the shifter. I simply used a self tapping screw on the TomTom suction cup mount. It has worked great for me.
