question aboput cold intake on mp5

i have a mazda proteg5 car. i put a cold intake in it . my question is if i remove the fog light would that make my coldintake much better because there is more air flowing to the coldintake.
 
If you remove the Fog light, it is solid behind it. You could cut it out and allow air into that space, but you will also let a lot bugs, water, and dirt in as well. The point of the CAI is to allow unrestricted air flow to the engine, and to get colder air to the engine. The air in the wheel well is going to have plenty of air and it will be colder than above the radiator or in the engine bay. Opening the wheel well up the elements will force you to clean your filter more too.
 
I cut a hole in the bottom of the front fenderwell just under my filter. There used to be a molded piece that was like an upside down scoop to replace that bottom piece I think from corksport maybe!?
 
Your filter will be extremely dirty in couple days if the air blow directly to the filter, and this does not really help the airflow anyway.
 
A project I never had the chance to do was to use piping to reroute cold air from just in front of the rad, where the stock lower grill is up to the filter.

It's a protege5, not a performance drag car...

You probably won't see any gain even if you cut out the area behind the fog light...

I'll be installing an injen CAI next week. It'll have the drysock on it though.
 
Yes the filter gets dirty extremely fast (if the filter gets dirty faster it is due to more air flow running through there. No?)
In my car there is quite a difference! NA probably not so much!!
