Qestion about Upgrading the system

I have the stock Kenwood in my 2003.5 msp. My head unit stopped working. No big deal I wanted to replace it anyway. So here is my question, Will I be able to just replace the head unit with a different one and still use all the factory speakers? I have not pulled the head unit yet, I thought I would ask first. I also want to add a 10" sub just for a little rumble. Can I use the second amp to power the sub and disconnect my factory sub? So what I want to do in a perfect world is replace the head unit and have all the factory wires work with it. And then power a sub with the factory amp. What do you guys think. Thanks for the HELP!!

That will work just fine. Make sure you get a 4ohm subwoofer. That will maximize the output from the factory amp. You may also want to mount the factory amp somewhere else. It has a tendency to overheat and shut off when mounted upside-down on the top of the trunk (no where for the heat to go).

My factory unit crapped out the other week, you have a few optons, you could grab another Kenwood unit that would most likely use the kenwood connector or you can get the stock Protege plug and use the plug that comes with you new stereo and make a new harness or as i did I repined the the harness witha plug for my pioneer unit so now thw stock harness goes from protege to pioneer not kenwood, or you can cut and splice the stcok harness...

as for the sub, I am using the stock amp on a JL 12w0 and its sounds awesome but as suggest just get a sub box and scrap the factry location...
