Q on ABS & Break Warning Lights On

I have my ABS and break lights on from last night. I was driving in heavy rain and it must have caused some electrical problems? Everything on the breaks are fine, i went to have it checked with a mechanic that works on my car, but his diagnostic thing couldn't find any codes because it's probably a Mazda specific thing that i need to take back to the dealer for them to diagnost?

Anyone have any ideas what this problem could be, please? Thanks!

P.S., I think it could be ABS sensors that are on each wheel that could be the problem. Anyone have any idea on this item and how much it will cost to replace, please?

I know when my light went on my abs sensor went out on my left rear wheel, so that could be your problem. From what im told its a fairly in-expensive part and easy to install.

Ok, thanks, i had it checked with the dealer and they said it will take two hours to fix and the part cost is $99.80!!

My problem was the right rear wheel ABS sensor! Seems this is a common problem with our cars!

Seems expesive, but, i think, this is a part that can only be purchased from Mazda and doubt there is any aftermarket part for this.

I'm taking it in tomorrow and get it fixed so the ABS will work again and the warning lights will go off.

Hey just FYI, the 2003.5 MSP front end clip that I'm currently working on swapping into my 99, I just pulled the ABS system off the clip because my car did not originally come with ABS. I have the ABS sensors and clips if you want them used. I'd sell them to you for like half price. They came off a 2003.5 MSP with 18,000 miles. PM me if you're interested.

Titanium, I have both the right and left ABS sensors off a 03.5 MSP. If either of you need them, PM me.

The install is pretty straight forward too. Also I can give either of you a 'how to' if you need it.

Do you have rear or front sensors?

As far as the install, the i asked the tech there, they said they'd have to remove the back seats out of the car and do wiring inside the car and remove the wheel and break set up which will they will charge a flat fee for 2 hours work.

I have both of the front sensors, neither of the rear. Which are you looking for?

Besides, if it is in fact the rears that you are looking for and if they are set up the same way as the fronts (which I don't see why they wouldn't be considering the msp has rear disk brakes), then what he told you is a load of crap.

There are two halves of the ABS sensing system. The first half has a wire harness comming from the ABS sensor (which has its sensor over the axle gearing and is attached to the inner steering knuckle on the spindle). It clips midway on the shock and then ends with a male input clip. That male input clip connects the first half to the female input clip of the second half. The second half is a wiring harness that travels to the ECU. If the problem is in the first half, only wheel and possibly brakes will need to be removed-- although there is no reason why you cannot just reach over the rotor with a socket wrench extension to get the ABS sensor off, the rest is cake. If the problem is in the second half, then yes they might have to remove the back seats to replace the wiring but they could also be taking you for a ride. A lot of shops will take un-necessary measures to do a lot of things that dont need to be done, to run up the clock on your bill. All the more reason to do things yourself.
