PVC in engine compartment?

Will a PVC pipe melt if I use it for a custom CAI in my MP5?

Thanks

not unless you have it touching something really hot....a lot of guys have used it to make home made CAI's

It should not melt but PVC will start to release hydrogen chloride as is heats up and when mixed with moisture in the air it CAN form hydrochloric acid. So I would not recommend it. You can get metal tubes cheap enough for making a CAI.

where can i get these pipes that you talk about? Around town only. I don't want to buy it on-line.

Thanks

if you must use plastics, use ABS...its stronger than pvc, and doesnt contain all the nasty s***...you can find it at any lowes, or home depot, or ace...pretty much any hardware store.

Muffler shops will have great metal piping that they may sell you and if you go and measure it all out they can even do nice custom bending for you...

Claeren.

Use ABS, then paint the outside of the thing with some really high temp grill paint to help insulate it from the heat.. It worked really well in my old Ford Probe GT.

doesn't PVC turn into TOXIC fumes if melted/burned? i sware ive heard that somewhere
