I filled up with gas near the end of a road trip this past week and the vehicle did not want to start for a few minutes. A few miles later the CEL came on. I have no doubt that the canister purge valve is failing to close, because this happened for the first time a year ago, and it happened again three months ago during our last road trip. Both times I have ended up getting the purge valve replaced and the problem was solved.
It doesn't seem like this should happen three times in a year. Has anyone been able to figure out and address the root cause?
I'd really love to know if there is a way to prevent my car from eating another brand new purge valve in the near future, and why it is happening when I am driving for a relatively long period of time continuously.
