Purchasing A New CX-5, should I wait until after labor day for new incentives?

Hello All!

New to Mazda vehicles here; my last 3 cars were BMWs (z4, 335, 335 xDrive) but my wife and I are looking to downgrade to a small/midsized SUV as we are looking for a new home. I test drove the CX-5 the other week and was surprisingly happy with how it drove. After test driving all comparable SUVS we decided on a 2016 CX-5 Grand Touring, fully loaded :)

They are current running 1.9% for 60 months until 9/8. My question is, does Mazda usually offer any better incentives in the fall? I really would like to see 0%, or at least cash on top of the 1.9%. I was planning to purchase this weekend but I may hold off until after 9/8 to see if any better incentives are available. .... I thought it would be best to ask you all first on your thoughts, seeing as you are all more familiar with Mazda than I am.

Thanks so much!

I'm also in the maket

I'm also waiting to see what incentives Mazda USA is offering for Labor Day and beyond. I missed out on the last holiday(Memorial Day), when they offered $500 back and 0.9 financing. Have you tried turecar.com, Edmunds.com, KBB.com. There are currently American express, Chase , Allstate and Mazda Loyalty and Military discounts.
What state are you in and what color/ options your looking at. Also Mazda just announced the Mazda CX-3 to arrive this fall.

I'm also waiting for 0% financing but it seems Mazda never does it. I actually had contacted a dealer today via email about it and this is what they sent back:

Hello,

Mazda only offers 0% for 36 months. The way a Mazda dealer can get 0% for longer is to buy down the rate. They pre-pay the interest to the bank. This is you in effect paying the interest up front. I always recommend that you look at the payment not the rate. Mazda offers 0% for the CX-9. However, if you do not take the rate you get $4000. I have rarely found a case where the payment on the 0% was less then using the 4000 cash on the vehicle.

Again, on the 2016 CX-5 Mazda only offers 0% for 36 months. Other manufactures may offer 0% for 72 months. But again, all banks would go out of business if they did this. When the do 0% for 72 months they are just paying the interest instead of offering the customer a cash rebate.

Is that all true? If so, a bit dissapointing. Obviously won't sway me away from Mazda but annoying when all other car manufactures offer it but not Mazda.

Basically, he's telling it like it is. It's all just playing with the numbers, either way, you are paying interest.

Do you have a trade-in? This is generally where you can make or break your deal.

To who asked earlier; I am looking for the Meteor Color :)

I am trading in my BMW 335. I got a half dozen quotes, all pretty close but I was hoping for more. I haven't negotiated on the trade price yet - that is my next step when I go back to the dealership.

So it sounds like, at least for the CX-5, 0% for 60 months is rare. If so, might as well take the 1.9% unless they would have some killer cash rebates post 9/8.

I would think that's a pretty desirable used car. Depending upon age, condition and trim, I wouldn't think whatever loan you get would be very big. Don't let them lowball you on it in any case.

Thanks so much! It is fairly new, 2011 with almost all options including factory warranty and M-Sport package with less than 48,000 miles. I've been in the BMW scene for about 10 years and am pretty confident on what they could make on the car so I have a real good idea of where I want to be in regards to trade value.

I am very surprised though as most of the dealerships are not budging much on the MSRP price - most will drop around $500 or so. Does anyone know what the true cost / invoice price of a fully loaded AWD GT is? Most MSRP prices I have seen are around $33,200 - $33,600. Which is why I was inquiring about Labor Day sales and Post-Labor Day incentives.

On a side note; is there any specific to the CX-5 I should know about before purchasing? I absolutely want the Technology Package, is the "I-Active Package" worth it?

I greatly appreciate the responses! I was a very active member on the BMW forums and suspect I will also be on this forum once I take possession! Thanks.

i think you will want to get GT + Tech for sure (to get the LED light package which gives it the premium look/feel). whether iActiveSense is for you is mostly how much you care of safety tech and if you are "cruise control" user to take advantage of the adaptive CC. for those that have it, i sense they don't reget getting it at all. for those that don't have it (like me), i don't know what i'm missing so i'm happy too :) the GT/Tech has BSM, Smart CITY Brake Support (speeds <20 mph), and RearCross Traffic (which has saved me from some collisions already), and adaptive LED headlights so that is good enough for me.

Trade-in with the dealer you're buying from is a good deal (at least in Texas) as they subtract it from the cost of the car before the sales tax line. This is worth hundreds of dollars.

Yeah I hear yah. I myself am trading in a 13 Hyundai Elantra.

Yup - same here in PA. It will save me almost $1,800. I will be taking that into account when I receive the final trade value.

Yes, I consider the Mazda Radar Cruise Control one of the best most usable options I've had on a vehicle in a loooong time. Having not play with the throttle / brake when following someone (with the cruise on) is so nice.

My Infiniti's system is so aggressive with the brakes with other cars around I don't use it much? It does have 3 distance settings but doesn't really help issue.

Does Mazda's system keep a safe enough distance it doesn't have to ride brakes all the time?

Well I made an agreement with a dealership; I agreed on a 2016 Grand Touring w/ Technology Package in Meteor Gary (which is really the only color I wanted) for $30,700 out the door (Taxes, Title, Fees, etc. all included)

I am pretty happy with that. There was a dealership about an hour away that said they would go to $30k but it wasn't worth the drive and I honestly didn't trust they wouldn't try to adjust the price when I got there.

I did notice that on edmunds or kbb, it said that there are discounts for AAA and USAA members - is this true? I couldn't find it on mazda's website but that will save me like $400 when I pick the vehicle up.

Also is it worth getting an extended warranty through Mazda? They offered one at a "discount" price but it was through "Zurich" - any thoughts on that?

Thanks All!

What is the purchase price before tax, title, fees? Any incentives in that price?
(Trying to compare apples to apples)

Thanks and Congratulations!

Attached is the bill write up - They didn't budge on MSRP but they did give me $3,000 more on my trade than most other dealerships so I was OK with it, especially since they had to have the car shipped in as it wasn't in stock.

Market Value - $31,900.00
Rebate - $500.00
Adj. Sale Price - $31,400.00
Trade Value & Discounts - $24,000.00
Sales Sub Total - $7,400.00
Sales Tax - $444.00
Doc Fee - $134.00
Fees - $99.15
Trade Balance - $22,623.00
Net Sales Price - $30,700.15

We had planned to buy outright when we bought our '15 in summer of '14 but with 0% interest...and around $2K off MSRP we dropped $10K on it and financed for 5 years. We could have gone 6 but 5 already seemed long enough.
