pulling my hair out..(Greddy EBC)

Well, what little is left, anyway...

I cannot get this Greddy profec spec B to hold boost over 15.5 lbs... I must be doing something wrong. I can get it to spike like there's no tomorrow, but it will not hold. I picked up a Forge BPV thinking it may help, but it hasn't..

I have my setting way up:

set: 25%
Gain: 30%
Set gain: 155! It still won't hold.

I have run it:
set: everything from 15% to 35%
Gain: from 4-30%
Set gain from (90-160)

The controller will not hold!

I have wasted 2.5 full tanks of gas trying to dial this......thing. I wish it were alive.. I'd set it on fire and put it out with an ice pic. I s*** you not.(braindead

Stupid question, but did you cap the boost solenoid as it shows in laloosh write up? If you didnt, then this is your misstake.

patience my friend, its take a bit to get just right. i said this b4 and i'll say it again, the profec II is one of the hardest boost controllers to get on point. i have the E-01, i tell it set 18psi take it out for a spin, floor it and i get my desired boost pressure.

cap off the stock boost solenoid, you mean?

Thanks for the responses. This forum is pretty cool you everyone is quite helpful! I appreciate it.

When you say it won't hold, at what RPM does it start dropping off at? What does boost do right after the spike?

Let me be more clear. I'm trying to achieve 17lbs solid.. It will spike to 18-19 then drop to 15 and hold at 15-15.5, but I cannot get it to hold anything over 15-15.5. It will hold at 15-15.5 but nothing higher.. that's what I'm complaining about.

SpdFreak,
Thanks for the MAP clamp offer, but I really don't want to go that route until I'm out of factory warranty. Do not be mistaken- the Mazda tech/people peruse these forums and know exactly what to look for and I bet they love to void warranties over such a thing. I'll wait..

Edit- Also, I have a buddy who's a high end BMW master tech of some sort and I discussed the idea of the Dealer/factory needs to prove that my mods caused engine failure, part failure, damage, etc.. he said they don't have to prove anything... They can most likely reproduce it via OBDII data and even if they can't, they only need to get in the ballpark for the BAR to accept their reason for warranty denial. When it comes to mods, the BAR takes the dealers side most of the time.. they hate mods.

With the clamp on there, they wont be able to see it with a scanner. It just stops the reading from going out of range on the high side. Functions normally otherwise. I would think the EBC would void your warranty quicker than a map clamp.

Wait a second, you installed an EBC and you're worried about a fricken map clamp voiding your warranty? Where is your logic? I guarantee you when they see your little device sitting up where you have it mounted, they are going to know right off the bat youre overboosting. (headshake

My logic is that I can easily pull off my 'mods' because I've placed them ever so stealthily and was sure to make no marks or leave no trace of tampering. The Map clamp needs to have wires cut/soldered. I cannot put it back to stock once wires have been cut.

My question is this: The stock solenoid has no pressure in/out if it's not capped and it's not plumbed into vacuum/pressure other than the hoses. So, if I leave it unplugged, how is it going to keep boost from going past 15lbs?

Just play with it some more took me half hour to get it exact...sounds to me like either your gain or set gain is too low...I get no spike what so ever...

I agree if your spiking then falling then your gain or set gain is too high and your set is too low. Trying tuning them down and turing your set slightly up.
good luck.
