Mazda protege-5 2002
Guys,

so, today I fixed a deal for a protege5 in southern ca
Here are the details:

Protege5/2002/single-owner/5-speed/black/109k-miles/6-cd-changer excellent condition.
I drove the car and it was really smooth unlike other cars I drove.
I would be getting the car in 10 days as the owner has to fly out of socal and he wants this car till then if possible

I got the carfax report; just one owner. I got the car for $5k.
Here are two issues I see with the car:

1) Passenger side tail light cover is partially broken little bit though it is fully functional

So, I need this part and here are two questions regarding this:
1) where can i get passenger side taillight cover ?
2)How can I install it

Since the color is black and car is almost 6 years old, I see a lot of small nicks and dents. How can I get it repaired if I want it to look good in a cheap way ?

Here are few pics

Welcome! You, my friend, got a deal! The car looks nice!
Where are you located? I'm in the IE and there's a bunch of us in socal. MOCC forums is a good place to check out. If you are near San Bernardino/Riverside area I could help you work out the kinks.

Look in the for sale section of this forum for taillights, they come up often. Go to the dealer and get a little touch up paint bottle.

You planning on doing anything to it when you get it or just leaving it stock?

Just check if the timing belt has been changed. It should have been done at around 100k miles

That's a sweet deal there man. Too bad you have to wait all that time to drive her. But I suppose you can't have everything. It's threads like these that really make me feel I overpaid for mine... But I love her anyway, so it's all good. So will you man! Welcome aboard!

just get a whole new taillight. JDM tails even better...looks clean man, congrats...Ive alway wanted a black one to murder the %^&$ out...But im gtting a laser blue this summer when i get back...enjoy man

Even I get a new tail light, how can I install it ? Can I instal it myself ?

Right now, I am pretty low on budget so looking for a great deal on tail light.

nice ride! good deal as well! no cheap fix for dents...dent dr. or dent wizard is your best bet, no paint needed. ya, get EDM or JDM tails ftw!

mazdas are expensive, but since its a one owner, and a clean car... that price is decent. you can get some local guys to install it for you, its not that hard to put on a taillight

Um yeah....you have to pull out the whole platic cargo area and thats pretty much the hardpart...Take the little platic circles off behind the tailight to uncover the bolts, hit em up with an extended socket, unplug the harness then plug the new one in and reverse the process

yeah, expensive compared to chevy cavaliers.
But looking at the market, Mazdas lose value faster than Honda and Toyota but maintain about the same level of reliability which makes them a great overall value. The fact that they have less horsepower numbers than the competitors puts off some buyers. What they don't realize is that Mazdas are typically a few hundred pounds lighter and handle much better stock for stock, which makes a big difference in driving enjoyment.
