Protege5Online Steering Column Gauge Pod

$85 for this part, if it really looked stock is fine by me. That's why I bought it. I think it looks nicer than the pillar pods and I like it right in front of my face. Also, the only thing it gets in the way of is the odometer.

$85 for a cheap piece of plastic that doesn't fit right is a ripoff.

MSP-4-ME, are you keeping yours?

This is weird. In the year that Ive been selling these pods & the company has been producing, not one of these concerns has ever been brought to my attention. Everyone thats said anything about it has only said good things. Everyone has told me they look stock & thats why they like them. As to the price, I dont come up with that. I didnt produce this product so the company that makes them came up with the price & from what Ive seen from other custom made guage pods....85.00 is high but not outrageous. Back when this was being first made, it was the only guage pod you could buy for our cars & people liked them because you didnt have to mess up your existing interior to install it (like pillar pods) and you didnt have to paint it to match (as to why yours doesnt match, I dont know...it seems to match everyone elses car) I also dont see what the problem is with thin plastic. Its not like you throw your steering column around or have a good possibility of breaking it. If it was thicker plastic, the pod would probably be twice the size & end up being too tall. Now on the install, there really isnt a way to get the clips on there so it clips in. Thats just not something that can be done easily & if it was, I dont even want to know what it would cost!! All in all, everyone Ive sold this pod to that has gotten back to me has seemed happy with it. Ive never had a complaint so I find it weird that all of these concerns are all of sudden coming up.

all I could tell you is, dont settle.... If you dont like it ... and you dont want to try and make it better, then just return it and find something youd be happier with.. It will save you money in the long run. Cause if you dont like it now.. chances are you'll end up replacing it no matter what down the road..

A Word of Warning:

I don't recommend buying an A-Pillar Pod that fits over the existing A-Pillar. I got one from Autometer with a single pod and it is a pain in the ass. I tried to use body molding tape to attach it and the way it is built it does not contact enough of the pillar for the tape to stay on. After about an hour it starts falling off.

If I had it to do over again I would have gotten the full pillar. I only want a boost gauge for now and thought I could add more later. Now I see that if I want a second gauge I will have to buy another pod anyway.

I may just get a dual gauge full pillar and cover one hole until (or if) I decide to add another gauge. If I do that, I won't even worry about paint matching. I will paint it and the other factory pillar to match each other. I don't like the grey pillars anyway.

personally i think the best location I have seen is in the dash, either with a custom deck and mount below/above that or down at the bottom, 3 gauges fit there perfectly.

personally if I had to have more than that it would be a full a-pillar with 2 pods.

I agree w/ sundevil. Above or Below the HU is the most stock looking spot for gauges. :)
