Hey P5er's, I recently purchased a 2003 P5 and I Love It! But I'm set and ready to start on the mods. I just have a quick question on a choice for exhaust. I don't want to drive down the street and people think that a Large Bumble Bee is flying around. There are a few Exhaust selections I've seen around the net, I'm just curious on which one sounds the best! Price is not a problem, I would rather pay more if it sounds better, than pay less for honda dirt bike sound! Thanks for your help on this subject!

i have a racing beat cat back exhaust. sounds pretty good no real rice sound.. just a deep hum. very nice. I saw another exhaust that i really likes however i beliece it was a jic catback exhaust. if you were looking into something like that you may want to get hold of rishie (ard mp5) and see what he thinks of it because i saw it on his car.

I got the SR Motorsport Catback Exhaust. Fooled my girlfriend... She didn't notice till one day we were following a white P5 and she said, "That's guys exhaust is smaller than your". I've had mine for 4 months now and I love it. Not to loud and it does't sound like a cheap fartcan either.

the problem with recommending one....WE don't know what YOU like.....one thing I have noticed about the exhaust systems for OUR cars...is that NONE of them sound like the "honda can of pissed off bees" that so many of us hate.....due to the engine and the way its configured.....our engines have a lower exhaust note....more throaty.....the realy big difference from one system is how loud it is...
I have the Bosal system....and I love it....its polished stainless steel from front to back...it looks good, sounds good, and fits good......
for some...it might be too loud....I don't notice it at all unless you are cruising at 80...then you can hear the drone of the exhaust note....IF you turn the tunes down! lol

2) HKS Hiper axleback - cheaper, typical N1 canister & silencer. I'm stuck on this one.
3) Magnaflow catback - Had one on my civic, great deal but nothing spectacular. I have a hookup for them if anyone wants to start a groupbuy.

If you honestly think there are that many companies making exhausts not just purchasing the parts to put them together then you are mistaken. Go check out a shop that says they make there's. Do you see a bender? Do you see a welder? Do you see a bin full of prebent Tubing? Where do they send it to get either chromed or polished? There are hundreds of tips and exhausts to choose from. you can get all the parts redialy at a muffler supply shop. Prebent angles and such make your own if your not happy with the looks or price. Just my Opiion and some facts
JIC all the way man. If you are considering the HKS rear section, definately take the JIC into consideration too. It is full stainless and has a great deal of quality put into it. They are imported direct from Japan. Rishie took me for a ride in his P5 and it sounds very deep and nice. The piping is 2.3inches
Things to look at when purchasing an exhaust:
1. Diameter, too big is never a good thing
2. Note of Exhaust: Straight/Chambered, Internal packing mat.
3. Material produced in piping: Mild steel or Stainless Steel
4. Coating of material if mild
5. directly related to #3 is the WEIGHT of the system
4. Aesthetics: To suit your needs; Big Can, small can, bullet style=straight through, or chambered/oval style can.
I have had the Bosal, Racing Beat, and JIC. We have guys with custom catbacks as well. Both Magnaflow and Ractive custom setups have been seen and heard.
For starters: any mild steel system like Racing Beat will be close to 50lbs, similar to stock with resonators.
For me the Bosal was the best "Bang for buck" but did not the aesthetics I desire for the P5. It's can hung to low and the tip somewhat small in comparison. The sedan however is another story. It looks great. Lots of internal cabin noise in comparison to the rest. Weighs about 27lbs, no resonator and nice finish.
Racing Beat: Most quiet. Almost like a good factory system. At WOT is when you hear it, otherwise it's silent. Can hear your intake. lol. But weighs like 50lbs. Going from Bosal to RB was tough cause I'm weight conscious.
Custom systems will be mild steel for the most part and usually have more welds involved. If you don't have a good welder it may not be a pretty site from underneath. But functional, with a good muffler should cost around $250.00 to $350.00 depending on material of piping.
HKS is rear section only. Haven't seen the Greddy. We are a dealer for SR motorsports and the exhaust seems over priced to me. IMO of course.
JIC is damn incredible, complete stainless steel extremely lightweight with a resonator. About 18lbs. The lightest of the bunch. Is a straight through design but still isn't loud at all. It's got the best sound of the bunch which is actually very typical of their exhausts. I have yet to find a better sound in any application. And we've done a lot. I shouldn't have been surprised. Single piece, muffler to catback. Minimized number of welds. Bends are beautiful. Retails for $680.00. Club pricing is about $620.00 shipped in continental US. If you're willing to pay more, but with this disount, then JIC will be a choice you will not regret. It is imported from Japan in is much better quality and appearance than the greddy and HKS systems out for this car. Guaranteed.

i got the thermal exhaust, its a full cat back and yes i did get some performace gains, my P5 redlines very easily now with this exhaust...don;t know if there is a thermal exhaust for the sedan version yet
