protege5 coilovers or shocks/struts and short shifter

I'm hoping to do some work to the protege5 over thanksgiving break when I will have access to the proper tools. My struts are on their way out so it seems like a good time to upgrade the suspension and give it a bit of a drop. In an ideal world I would like to put on coil-overs, but I'm not sure this will fit the budget. So a complete strut and shock set would be the niftiest. I would be interested in just struts or just shocks or just struts as well.
Looking for a short shift kit as well.
Let me know if I'm breaking any forum rules...
