well, just wanted to thank everyone for the replies and feedback. i'll post a reply when im pretty sure about my final decisions. if anyone else has something to comment or vote, go ahead. thanks everyone. it's time for me to go to sleep.

definetly a bad idea. I've contemplated this far too many times. I can't afford to keep bread in my house, but I can afford to drink.

Having worked night crew at a grocery store, I know thats a really bad idea. I was working with 20 poeple everymight that thought that.
There is nothing more pathetic then a 30 year old trying to figure out how to feed his family becuase he has to pay debts from stupid finacail decisions of his youth. Or a 50 year old that got laid off and has to work for the same wage as a 19 year old and has nothing in retirement funds with the majority of their working life behind them.

You can never totaly predict "Later".
LAter could be unemployment, children, massive medical bills, or tragedy. Assuming all will be well is a great path to ending up in a freggin gheto where you can't get insurance, everything you buy gets stolen, and you end up getting shot for the $50 you had left to yout name.

Of coarse there is always living off your parents or the government which either way in my book makes someone a creatin.

Very wise words. I'm single, have a college education, don't live at home and am so very tempted to get an Evo myself. I could trade in my Speed and get an Evo, but I would be living close to the edge financially. So, I've decided to wait a few more years and pick up a used Evo which will probaby be even cheaper or get a new one when I make more money down the road. The Speed fits my budget and leaves me a comfortable margin once the major bills are paid which is the rent and carnote.

Frankly, It's a bad move financial-wise. Now, I know how folks a good decade younger than me can afford such a car. (I yearn for days past of not having a car payment due every month.)

Too many people want to live in the same house their parents live in and drive the same high-priced vehicles their parents drive not realizing it took your folks 20 plus years or more to acquire those things. They made sacrifices in their early years and are reaping the rewards down the road.

Anyways...your decision. I truly hope you don't have to learn the hardway. A lot of folks (around your age group) have a lot of nice things, but it's too bad the finance companies actually own them.

my friend told me the samething, and i think it would be stupid to put yourself in a situation like that. i just figured if i can afford it, why not get it. if my dad were to die, then i would be so out of luck because their house payment is really high, and if u put me, my mom, and sister together we couldn't make enough to keep the house.

no life insurance??

anyway, your decision, but the smarter choice would be to keep the ES and bank some money to spend on yourself, moving out later, and your girlfriend.. she may be in CA right now, but the florist can still deliver to her in the meanwhile, to keep her happy.

Why am I helping you put all these parts on if your just gonna get rid of it? j/k but seriously keep your payment lower, you'll appreciate it later for sure, look at me I am buying a house right now and with all my other expenses I can't touch my car except to drive it to work, I get my kicks off putting things on other peoples cars for now.

THe single most improtant thing you can do is to get as close to an 800 for a credit score as soon as you can. You do it having alot of unused credit and no late payment or consistant balances on credit cards.

THe next most improtant thing you need to do is get a mortage, no renting crap. My mortgage made me $30k in under 2 years. THe Sti cost me $10K in a year and a half.

Once you have all that and have a retirement plan that you are funding, then look at an evo if you can still afford it.

I had all of these but the reality is that I do not want to live in a townhouse any mroe even though it has a garage and is very nice. I need my own free standing LARGE house with several garage spots. And since that desire will actualy make me money over time, the sti had to go.

which is why i am currently in the market for a house and not modding the rx-8. its awesome as it is stock and why waste money on it when i could put it towards a house that will gain equity.

im completely thankful for all the help you have given me. that's what i ask myself. i've spent so much money on the car, so i might as well keep it, and plus, i think it might be better to not have a car note. maybe, i'll convince myself to actually go and blow more money on my car.

i get what ur saying. i have really good credit for my age. im only 20, and it's in the mid 700s, but i think it's gone up alot because ive been using them within the last 2 months and paying them off. also, the apartment thingy isn't for me because i think it's a waste of money to rent or lease an apartment, car, or house. i dont make enough money to live on my own just yet, but within a year or 2 i will be. im thinking about going straight into a house. that's my goal. im going to need help with that though, and that's where my problems begin with that

im thinking maybe i should save my money up now for a house down payment. i think it's pretty early, but you have to start somewhere.

well, once again i just want to thank everyone for the replies and reading. also, scott i also wanted to thank u again for all the help with my car. im probably going to pick up a awr sway bar as my next mod. if for some reason it's too extreme for me, i'll trade it with u for the mazdaspeed rear sway bar. i like the red and white colors on it. i think it would match the strut bar, springs, and intake that i have.

Keep in mind you need 20% down on a house or yuo will be paying PMI and most houses in this country are above $200,000 these days.

It sounds like your in a really good financail position and once you are done school and get the house you will only be 6 montsh from an evo.

Just NEVER make the mistake that I did and cosign a loan.

My credit got SANK from a 780 to a 650 because the person I cosigned for went 60 days late on the loan and then went 60 days late on one of my creditc cards and didn't tell me. Now I can't get a decent rate on a car loan, never mind a mortgage.

As for your CC use, I was doing the same thing and it can actualy hurt your score. If you consistanly run up charges on your cards, then they are seen as a consistant debt, even if you pay it off each month. I got that one for Suze Orman.

All I know is I can't WAIT to have my Protege paid off by Novemeber next year (16? months). I'm going to have a mortgage in less than 6 months and it's going to be a little annoying paying both for awhile. I'm guessing buying a car is not the best feeling in the world. Maybe just the second best. I'm guessing the best is finally not having to make that payment every month.

After I get the daily driver paid off (planning to keep it 8-10 years) then comes the REAL fun-- project junkyard Miata and project junkard Suzuki (or Kawasaki or Yamaha.... :D). Only when I can pay cash of course. :D As much as I love machinery, I really don't see how paying a lot for it makes it more fun.

why does it have to be an evo. sounds to me like you just want another car. So why not get a mazda speed or somthing for 10 k cheaper just about and then your payments would be about the same or cheaper and you would have a better car?

i would get a speed, but i would only want it in silver or black. also, there are none around my area. i think 2 other broad members are looking for speeds too. i just like the look and balance of the evo. i wouldn't mod it for a while if i got it. i think it's fast being stock.

I have seen an 04' evo with only exhaust and MBC run high 12's- with a very good driver... The car is great stock- but you'll get the mod bug soon enough- just like I did after 2 weeks lol :)
