Protege Issues ??

Will you Protege owners please tell what issues the Protege has . I have been reading on here about bad bushings in the suspenstion . What is all this clunking caused by that people are chatting about and how old/miles does the car have on it before it starts. I have also heard that Mazda paint is not the best quality . The paint will chip easy compared to other manufactures paint.
I was in to see the dealer last night and he was unaware of any of these problems ( go figure) (scratch) . I really like the P5 and all you people have been really helpul this far in my reseach . Thank you

Dan from Canada(redp5) (canada)

i really like my p5 overall. i wish it had some additional ponies. the turbo will fix that one. i don't find the paint any worse than any other car i've owned. i do have a lot of chips on the front bumper, a few on the hood, from flying rocks etc..often the mods we undertake do dimish some of the cars original qualities, like adding lowering springs changes the ride etc... after 33,000 mile i've not had any real problems !!

i have noticed that the silver paint seems to hold up better than the yellow and white (the only other p5s i have seen around) but that is just my opinion. after all i was my car every weekend and was like twice every 3 months.
more zoom zoom would be nice.. but after all my reason behind buying this car was so i wouldnt get anymore speeding tickets.. 3 tickets in 6 days when i was 18 -=(

the clunk is found on mp3s (lots) and mazdaspeed proteges (a few i beleive,) not on regular proteges or pro5s.

yes, paint is environmentally friendly, so that means it doesnt hold up as well.

A few people have had tranny issues, some broken shift forks, some just completely FUBAR, most have not, just dont completely pound the sucker and you should be ok, no resting the hand on the shifter, no "speed shifting", etc.

So if you are going with a p5, you shouldnt run into too much trouble, except maybe the paint, moreso on the white and yellow than on the other colors ( i hear)

i have a 2002 Protege ES Sedan and the only thing i notice "sound wise," are the springs are squeaky in the mornings or when it's cold out, i have no "clunk," noise and the tranny is fine, the silver metallic paint i have is fine, i just wish the car had more power like 160whp.

Thanks for your reply guys . The one thing I forgot to mention in my Thread was that the transmisson and that I was thinking about was the automatic . Has there been any issues with 4 speed automatic ?
