Protege 5 --> Mini RC Car

Hey all you APC haters (hehe). If you have ever seen the tiny remote control cars, the Bit Char-G's (i have one, it's cool) well APC is making their version of the mini RC cars and they are gonna have a Protege 5 version!!! Wohoo. I have not seen them yet, but a friend told me that their store had them and then I saw them advertised in Super Street's latest issue. I am not sure if they have any pics on their site, but it's www.4apc.net
I think I might have to get me one.

No, I just went to the web site and ordered one. If it is the yellow/black color scheme, I will probably paint it to match my protege5.
 
I'm not a 100% sure but I think Radio Shack sells them in Canada. I'll check this.

The only bad thing that I have noticed is that it says you can controll it UP TO 10 feet away........not too far.........
 
Two of my co-workers here had them. Them go pretty good, and are suprisingly fast for their size. The remote runs off 2 AA batteries, and the car snaps onto the remote to charge-em up. They run for about a minute before needing to be recharded, but take seconds to charge. The only prob they've had with them is the wheel alignment. Any hobby store sells em, well in Canada anyways.

the wheel alignment is adjustable on the undersside of the car. I have a Mazda FD Rx-7, and I replaced the engine with a custom one made here in Texas, the stock engine is 1.0 (10,000 RPM) and I replaced it with a 3.8 (38,000 RPM), I think the largest mass produced one is a 3.0 engine. You can also upgrade the gear ratio for higher RPMs, change the tires for better traction, different' rims, and bodies.
 
I think walgreens have them. The packages look like those seen in the above links. They were by the register. So, I didn't have much time to search. I didn't see a p5. I saw a celica.

And I thought I was a lunatic with my $2200cdn slot car track! I see others find pleasure in playing with these toys. :cool:
 
slot cars....ahhhh what memories....i still have mine....one was a factory job...the other I hand built from scratch....they are 1/32nd scale cars I believe.....but I didn't have a track....NO ONE had a track at home....we went down to one of the strip malls near where I lived.....where there was a track...it took up about 1000 sq ft. of space....you brought your car...and your own hand control, and we paid $1/hour for time on the track. I spent many an hour racing there. It was great.....I still have my cars in a carrying case with all the goodies. even after 30 something years.

My home slot track isn't one of those "pro" (Parma type), it's Scalextric. I have something like 6 (1/32 scale) F1's and a couple of Touring cars. I've invested a lot in track sections, and I design my own Race tracks on CAD so the sections lay perfectly flat on the table. My best is over 69' in circumference, both lanes are exactly the same length. It uses a space of 33' in length and 11' wide, quite big... They now have computers to play against when you're alone, real fun during long winter evenings.
