Protege 5 Incentives

The VA dealer didn't mention any thing about Mazda credit :( well if you count the money from selling the old car then our price should be subtract another $2000. We had 92 Mazda Protege LX, dealer only gave us $800 for trade in but instead we sold it for $2000. hehee

A dealer is never going to give you the full value of the car because they have to resell the thing and they are not going to loss money on it.

Am not sure about the Pro 5s but the Mazda dealer down the road is knocking $2500 off the stickers on thier MSPs.

Some of these prices are making me sick to my stomach. I thought my wife and I did pretty well 18 months ago when we got our 03 Pro 5 for $200 over invoice.

Dupa, I'll raise you leather, ABS, and side airbags, and paid 13348 before tax. Add 6% for tax for total OTD (no fees, etc.)

OMG! How did you guys do that? I was $18,050 back in August, and this was before my Miata trade-in, $2,500 rebate and $2,000 cash down.

Either you two did incredibly well or I got really hosed!

It depends on the dealer. The one we bought the PR5 from didn't charge us for processing and freight but the one we went before wouldn't do it.

Can buy a new 03.5 MSP here for $15,968 plus TTL

Actually invoice on a 3.5 MSP is 19,447 and there is

$2500 rebate
$500 Dealer cash

$500 College cash

So $3500 below invoice is $15.947. Wow. Maybe I should've waited before I bought my Spec V.

You didn't get hosed, it was just *when* you bought your car. Right now, Mazda dealerships are desperate to get rid of their Proteges, they are dead weight. The Mazda3's are coming in and they want to start pushing those, because if they are hot, they will probably sell close to MSRP = $$$ for them.

All of us who waiting to the min probably gave up our choice of color, or options, I know I did.

yep, bought mine 2 weeks ago cuz of all that money back.

17600 sticker
marked to 14900
then 2500 Cash rebate used as down payment
so in essense I got the car for $12400

Please stop telling me these things! I'm gonna seriously shed some tears!!! AHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHH!

Wow, did I ever get lucky. I bought the following P5 a week ago:

-Yello, w/ leather interior
-Moonroof / 6disc in dash changer
-fully loaded
-roof rack

ONE PROBLEM, I paid $20,000 out the door. $2000 down payment and $300 for 60 months 0%apr. no payments till june

luckily enough the same day the dealer called me and said they screwed up the contract. they applied for a rebate i was not supposed to get. i re-did the contract the next day for the same payment plan and down payment. so i was still at 20k out the door.

then yesterday i got ANOTHER call. once again the contract was screwed up. apparently i was not allowed to get 0% for 60 months. only 0% for 54 months. they said i still pay the same, but just have to make up the 6 months by adding them to the 54 months. when i showed up to sign my THIRD contract it said my new HIGHER monthly payments to make up for the 6 i couldn't get under 0% would be $340. Here comes some basic math:

$300 * 60 months + $2000 down payment = $20,000 OTD
$340 * 54 months + $2000 down payment = $20,360 OTD

when i asked why i had to pay extra he said its for fees. hmmm, i GAINED fees over the week??? i got pissed and said keep the damn car. i put 400 miles on it and wasted the "complimentary tank of gas". he re-offered me this deal:

$312 * 54 months + $2000 down payment = $18,848 OTD

i will call him today and see if i can get this deal:

$312 * 54 months + $500 down payment = $17,348 OTD

Is that a good deal? I live in a Chicago suburb. The dealership is Autobarn in Countryside.

Well my dealership just called and they "offered" me this:

$325 per month + $1500 down payment = $19,050

hmm, after all that they couldn't even knock off a full grand.

I retaliated with my $312 w/ $500 dwn. Long storty short, his final offer:

$315 per month + $1500 down payment = $18,510

I countered with my "FINAL" offer:

$310 per month + $1000 down payment = $17,740

And now I'm sitting here waiting for a call :)

Either I'm gonna be a Mazda owner or not. I'll soon find out.

I don't know the details (getting you out of a negative equity trade?) but you seem to be paying too much even at 310 for 54/1000.

What is the MSRP on the car?

What is dealer bonus cash in IL? I assume 1000, but maybe not.

The 0% interest is not a good deal. It saves you maybe $1,500. Much better to take the $2,500 rebate. Of course this assumes you have good credit and can get a 4% car loan.

For a car with MSRP of $18,985 I paid $2500 down (including $2000 for a trade whose trade-in value was hundreds below $2000) and am paying $220 per month for 60 months.

Yeah there is a $1000 dealer incentive here. The sticker price is $21000. The real sticker price before the $2k dealer pin stripe is $20k. The Protege 5 had the moon roof with changer, leather, roof rack, and all the other full power options. The only thing it didn't have was ABS, and the compass/auto dim mirror.

His final offer was $17700 OTD. I told him my final offer is $17500 OTD, but now that I think about it. They took the car back with 400 miles so it'll be harder to re-sell as new. So if they call back Monday I'll tell him I want it for $17k OTD.

$2000 down, 278per month for 54 months.

would i still be ripping my self off. seems like i'm getting good at that.

first of all.... I think you got a 2003 instead of a 2003.5 since you have a roof rack. I may be wrong on this but correct me if I am....

My P5 MSRP is $19625 with leather, 6CD, ABS, bling-bling wheels, side-airbags.... I managed to talk it down by $5K ($2500 rebates + $500 rebates +dealer discount). The OTD price is around $17K with extended warranty and registration fees ....

If I were you.... wait for the response on Monday... hear what they have to offer and tell them you will call them later... counter the offer after you had spent some time thinking about it.

Control and rule the game.... ;)

I do know it is a 03.5 because it does have the sub-woofer and the roof rack was charged $250 on the sticker price. So I shouldn't pay a penny over $17k OTD? or should i go cheaper since i don't have abs, airbags, polished wheels, or extended warranty. or should i tell them 17k with the extended warranty.

thanks for all the info, i'm feeling better and better that i returned the car. i would have been kicking my own ass everytime i sent a payment ;)

shareef777, you should check other dealers too, most of dealers have MSRP 17K~19K but you should able to get it around $15K with rebates and something. My dealer offers $15K + taxes...

Well its kinda funny, cause my last offer was $17.5k OTD and he has yet to call me back. Well I guess someone else got the car for more then that. Luckily enough I wasn't stuck with it for 20k.

in case he does call i'll post up

if not, then i guess i wasn't supposed to own a mazda. but i enjoyed it while it lasted, and i want to thank everyone in this thread for the help with pricing.

later all

Guess what!? At 9:10am central time I got a phone call from my dealer. I believe this is the 12th phone call in less then a week, and all initiated by them.

An hour later he agreed to $17.5k OTD ,:wtf: .I was so furious because he cursed me out Saturday saying that I'd never get that car for under $18k. So I retaliated with a $17k OTD offer.

Waiting for a phone call now. Should I take a chance and offer lower? Say, $16.5k.

p.s. anyone here ever negotiate for a car for a whole week?

I've never negotiated for a car for more than 15 mins.... :P

well, IMHO, I would not have offer him $17K at first and they agreed then come back at $16.5K... coz it reflects pretty bad on myself that I'm very indecisive... who knows... he might just forget about me and look for other customers. The best is always set a price and see whether the other party can meet the price. If not, negotiate somewhere in between.... its all about biz dealings....

What I would suggest now is that let him call you a couple of times... don't pick up the phone. Let me know that you are not urgent about getting a car soon.... he might actually lower the car price automatically....

Well after they took the car back on Thursday cause of their screw up, THEY tried raising the selling price from an already too high $20k, to $20.3k.

I was upset at the time that I had to keep redoing my contract that I walked out. I did not even think about taking the car back.

Then THE DEALERSHIP called me Saturday morning and re-offered my the $20k. Luckily enough this was after I realized how much the car was really going for. I politely informed him that "my retarded ass" researched the car "after" i bought it and found it to be going for about $17k to $17.5k all over the country. He denied that and wouldn't go below $17.8k. I said I want the $17.5k that everyone else was paying. He told me if I could get it for under $18k anywhere else, he'd give me $1000 for Christmas (this was in addition to the $30 I could pick personally pick up from him along with the free unlimited car washes), nothing would be written in the contract though because of policy  .

Well long story short after he called me this morning he continued to try to screw me over by offering $19k. I said either give me $17k or don't call back. (all prices are OTD)

So now if he calls back I should say $16.5???
